There are areas of Mesa that are good, such as north and north east Mesa. There is also an area of east Mesa just south of the 60 that is good.

The schools in Gilbert and Chandler are better. The area of East Mesa that I mentioned is in the Gilbert school district.

Much will depend on the price range of the home you'll be buying because some areas have higher priced homes.

I've lived my whole life in SE Mesa. google map (between broadway and southern, on higley rd) Amazing people, and great elementary schools in this area! This area feeds into Mesa High School. Not the most hoitey toitey high school, but DEFINATLEY not the worst in AZ. The kids say its the second most "ghetto" in Mesa. First "most ghetto" would be Westwood High School. This makes me laugh though, because I was a 17 year old mormon boy in the second most "ghetto" school in Mesa.

Point:

Its Mesa. Mesa is great! 99% of the schools are fantastic! Move to Mesa, and you will have no worries.
