Default Commute Time - Might be working in Scottsdale

Hello everyone,

I might accept an offer to work at a firm in Scottsdale, AZ. The location of the firm is on East Hartford Drive.

I'm currently commuting from CT to NYC, which is brutal. By accepting this job in Scottsdale, I was hoping to reduce my commute time significantly (15 minutes each way).

I want to purchase a house and stay around $300K-$350K. Considering this price range, I'm guessing I will have to look for a house outside of Scottsdale. Can someone please tell me what other living options I have?

I want to live in a safe, vibrant, friendly area without the commute. BTW, I heard Chandler is nice from a friend who once lived there..is that too far from Scottsdale?

Thanks,
UConn

Working in Scottsdale area, anything east of the I-17 or SR51 would be a much better idea then living in the areas. At least from the middle of the city on the north end and east of (I-17 or SR51) you can commute to most places in the area and do it with less travel time gas and traffic. I would say to look in those areas and see what you find. Many different price ranges and neighborhoods to choose from and some of those areas are very safe, others are not. You’ll want to be on the inside of the Loop 101 in the N-E corner of the valley, around Bell Rd. and Scottsdale Rd area. Also the area around Paradise Valley Mall is very good.

There are lots of neighborhoods in your price range north of Cactus Rd or Shea and between I-17 and the area around SR51. Zip Codes 85029, 28, 85023, 22, 32, 85054, 85027, 24, 50 seem to all fall into that area.

I just looked up houses in your price range that would be a great commute. And by surprise I did find about 6 homes in Scottsdale from $330-350. It's in the 85254 zip and would be ideal for your commute. I believe your work on Hartford is in North Scottsdale, and these homes would put you at a 15 min commute (maybe less?). They are a bit smaller than most in the area, and could probably need an update, but it's a great area to live in.

Otherwise, there are 150 homes on the market a little more west from there (like a mile or two or so) that are nice as well. Many already stated above, but the zips are 85032, 85022, 85028, 85050, 85024.

Chandler would be out, if you want the 15 min commute. You would really have to stay within 10 miles to be 15 mins away. Get a map and find your work, then measure out 5-10 miles and see where that puts you and start there. I highly suggest staying north of thunderbird (anything south will put you in some million dollar homes and more to the west in a kinda crappy area) and east of 40th (really 42nd st). And anything north will be a good (if not great) area, just don't go too north or you will be commuting more.

Thumbs up Welcome To The Area

It’s nice to see someone who wants to move to the area and live near where they work, without adding to the traffic, polluting the air, and burning up gas.

We need the other 9,999 others that are moving here each month doing the same thing!

Too few people every think ahead of their move here!
