Just saw on the news last night in Maricopa there are a string of house burglarizes, and they are going right thru the wall. Plus its a city of foreclosures so your neighbor will be a vacant, unkept house.

Damn I didn't think the place had much of a crime rate. i understand the foreclosure situation and that dont bother me. i will sit on my house for at least ten years

My daughter and son in law live there and have not had any problems. Their development is a very nice one and in close proximity to shopping. We just drove through there yesterday and it looks like it will be a very nice community when built out. The only drawback is how far out it is. Even with that, it only took us 15 min to reach Chandler.

Maricopa has many homes that are short sales and foreclosures. As a result, there are many empty homes, rentals and some amazing deals on nice, newer homes. Queen Creek in the southeast valley is pretty much in the same situation. Great price in both towns. Both are developing as towns with shopping areas and restaurants going in. Several neighborhoods have golf courses running through them with homes on the course. Very nice.

coming from mississippi which isnt the most urban area if you like the relative country setting there then youl like maricopa. Ive only flown a plane in the area but its quite secluded. There really is nothing but desert between there and the city. Crimewise im not sure but you dont hear bout too much going on out there. Give it a shot and make sure u already have a job lined up before you come. Good luck and enjoy the area.

A lot of it depends on what you are looking for. If you plan on commuting to downtown Phoenix every day, then it might be a little too far out for you. Also, Maricopa is for the most part, a very new city. Before 2000, the population was somewhere around 2500. Now it is estimated to be somewhere around 30,000 -- yet there is little infrastructure. The city is mostly a whole lot of houses!

There are two grocery stores, five gas stations, a handful of fast food places, and a few other strip-mall type of businesses. They are also building a new Walmart, which is scheduled to open around May. Most everything else requires a 20 minute drive to Chandler or Casa Grande.

Take a look in the "Arizona City by City" sticky, in the Arizona section, and look at some of the past threads by searching on "Maricopa". However, most people/postings will have a negative view on Maricopa, but they probably don't even live there and are just going on rumor. Your best bet would be to take trip down to Maricopa and see for yourself. Keep in mind, there are no hotels in Maricopa (other than at the Harrah's casino), so you might have to stay somewhere like Chandler.

One of my coworkers moved to Maricopa a couple years ago and bought a house after he got married. He says its the worst mistake he ever made moving there. The commute it horrible, and this is going near the airport. Its a town that feels like you are locked in, and all your neighbors are empty, unkept houses. Best part is you cant get out, because the houses value has dropped, and nobody wants to move there(Except for the TS). Good luck
