Sorry, but all I can tell you is it's a not-very-wide spot in the road on a not very wide road. Close to Pumpkin Center, Roosevelt Dam and Apache Lake. Basically the middle of nowhere with one or two Highway Patrolmen assigned in the area to patrol SR188 between SR87 and SR88. Pretty country if you like semi-mountainous desert.

Default Tonto Basin

My parents have lived in Tonto Basin for the last 6 years. It is a beautiful area and isn't that far out. It takes me an hour to drive there from my house in East Mesa, and is only 30 minutes from Payson. In the immediate area, there is a real grocery store, the best Pizza joint I've eaten at since I moved to Arizona 15 yrs ago (and that includes all of Maricopa County), a decent library, good fishing, and all the basic services you need. The area is an outdoor enthusiast's dream with plenty of opportunities for riding (horse, ATVs, etc), hiking, hunting, rock-hounding, and exploring Native American ruins.

The two big draw backs (from my point of view) are a lack of local jobs and no immediate emergency medical services.

If you have any specific questions, let me know.

Library? What do you do when the book is checked out? (sorry ). Don't tell people about the ruins. Most of the ruins in central AZ have been "ruined" by idiots in the last 30-40 years.
