Default Public transportation and Jobs in Phoenix?

Im considering moving to Arizona, I have the intention of trying to find an apartment in the $500-$650 range and then trying to find a job, I don't have anything more then a HS diploma so my choices for work is limited to general labor, dishwasher etc... I would like to be able to live in close proximity to employment where I could either use puplic transportation or bicycle. After I have found employment I am going to send for my wife to join me and together we will try and make the best of it. I need to leave Michigan, I cannot find a job the economy is number one on the unemployment list and jobs that pay $7-$8 are even hard to come by in my area! My plans are to goto school partime after establishing residence.. How hard would it be to find a $10 per hour job in Phoenix or should I look elsewheres? Thanks!

There are actually some fast food places that pay $12 an hour (In&Out Burg. for example, but most will be less). Gas stations, mini-marts, things like that usually start out at $9 an hour (it can vary), BUT the economy is not going to be any nicer here. I doubt it's nice anywhere. Also it's not cheap in the summers. A downstairs apartment in a large complex (it did for us at least) can cost around $120 a month for electric. That's a nice estimate for a 1 bed/bath, it can be much much higher. Just switch your winter costs to equal our summer costs.

Regardless of where you end up moving, make sure you have a job first!
