Ahwatukee...here we come!!
Well, after renting a house in N phoenix for the past 10 months we have grown to love the city. Fresh out of school, my fiancee and I have had a great time exploring the city when we find a weekend when we're not working. We've met a few groups of people we enjoy watching Cardinals games with and go out w/ them on for the occasional dinner.
After going back-n-forth on where to live, we have picked Ahwatukee! It was tough to pass up the CHEAP brand new houses along baseline, but we have our reasons. The house we started persuing in Ahwatukee was a foreclosure, (didnt' want to mess with the short sale mess). And, after 2 weeks of offers/counters, the bank has come down $12,500 to $247K.........our response..........TAKE IT!!!
We aren't planning on staying in the house forever, so resale was importrant to us. Location, Location, Location; while searching we found that houses in Ahwatuukee and S. Tempe were selling VERY fast! Its competitive out there, and when prices DO FINALLY turn around we are in hopes this area will turn around quicker.
What thoughts do the experts here have?
Anyway, after visiting Ahwatukee several times, we LOVE that you can drive anywhere and not see any *ghetto* areas. The entire area is nice, and that's important to us. Not to mention, shopping, restuarants, and close to the action in Tempe.
Thats all, just thought I'd spread our Joy since most news these days is depressing.

If you like the Cards, you'll love Ahwatukee. They all live back here because the training facility's on Warner/Kyrene.
Personally, I think its too isolated from the rest of Phoenix thanks in part to South Mountain, and the traffic can be horrendous at times (they don't call it "the world's largest cul-de-sac" for nothing)

Yes, i agree about the isolated part IF you go way back into Ahwatukee. However, I should have mentioned, that the house is on 35th st, just a few blocks to I-10 or 48th st to exit the cul-de-sac!

I lived in Ahwatukee for several years and it was nice. I had to leave when it got too popular - but that's me. Good choice!

Funny story (kinda): I used to work at the Blockbuster on 40th and Chandler and opened up an account for former Cards wide receiver Frank Sanders. The video he rented was something about how babies are made. Kinda odd, but this was like eight or nine years ago.

That's good, Ahwatukee is nice. I was basically forced to pack up, leave Kierland, and move to Ahwatukee by someone else in this house who will go unnamed. (This was the second and final time that this is happening, but that is another story.)
I have mixed feelings on the area, although they're more a product of what I'm used to. It's very nice, and it is surrounded by mountains and a reservation, which means it's fairly isolated. It's very scenic (my opinion), and very clean. Not ghetto. There are some very beautiful properties in Ahwatukee. Actually, a large range of prices and homes. But it's kind of boring for me, that is my chief complaint about the area. However, I don't find the traffic to be bad, except inbound I-10 in the AM, outbound in the PM. Also some volume on Chandler, and Ray roads. It's not terrible though.
All in all, I'm happy with the area and very happy with the close proximity to the airport. It's a nice, clean area, obviously good for families, the people are pretty decent, and there are a lot of amenities within a few minutes' drive.
Congratulations.

What is the subdivision you are moving to? I grew up in Ahwatukee and lived in 7 or 8 different neighborhoods (my parents rented and we moved around a lot). In fact, my dad still lives there. I love it, and I'm sure you will too! Congrats on your new house!

Yeah Ahwatukee can be boring, but maybe not for families. I'm single and no dependents, but I like boring. I am not averse to driving to Scottsdale to Kona Grill (never went to the closer one at Chandler Mall) or to north Scottsdale at Sapporos to hang out with friends. But I do like coming home to a place where it's quiet. Where I work is in LA and I'm renting a place where you hear street noise near a hospital. Sirens and all, you know. And when I'm home in Ahwatukee ever two or three weekends, it's so quiet I love it!
