Default The City with the second most kidnappings in the world Phoenix?

I like moutain biking and road biking, hiking, living a active life. I was glad to hear the City of Phoenix, MCSO, and the State of Arizona take some steps to get illegal immigration under control. Many do not understand that having a uncontrolled border with Mexico is a seriously bad thing (and no not because this is a race issue). Illegal immigrants fleeing and using healthcare, crowding 40 people to one house, driving down the wages of legal immigrant and US citizens. Coyotes that use drop houses and beat their illegal immigrants in un-human conditions right next to the average family house in Phoenix. And now the mexican drug cartels that are helping by holding people for money. Anyone remember a while ago when the N. Phoenix house had over 100 rounds of gun fire put in it by those trained mexico? That was a wakeup call!

So now Phoenix is number 2 not in the nation in kidnappings but in the WORLD! I have been there several times and love Phoenix its shameful that this is happening. Myself and many otheres look to move to Phoenix for a more peaceful life because thats what we hear. We hear of a city that is growing and young people such as myself can become part of it with a quality of life unmatched. But is it? This is shocking and not just "little crime".

Kidnapping Capital of the U.S.A.

Washington Too Concerned With al Qaeda Terrorists to Care, Officials Say

By BRIAN ROSS, RICHARD ESPOSITO and ASA ESLOCKER
February 11, 2009

In what officials caution is now a dangerous and even deadly crime wave, Phoenix, Arizona has become the kidnapping capital of America, with more incidents than any other city in the world outside of Mexico City and over 370 cases last year alone. But local authorities say Washington, DC is too obsessed with al Qaeda terrorists to care about what is happening in their own backyard right now.

"We're in the eye of the storm," Phoenix Police Chief Andy Anderson told ABC News of the violent crimes and ruthless tactics spurred by Mexico's drug cartels that have expanded business across the border. "If it doesn't stop here, if we're not able to fix it here and get it turned around, it will go across the nation," he said.
California Attorney General Jerry Brown warned that as the U.S. government focuses so intently on Islamic extremist groups, other types of terrorists – those involved with the same kidnappings, extortion and drug cartels that are sweeping Phoenix – are overlooked.

Those [criminals], for the average Californian or the average America, may be a more immediate threat to their well being," Brown said.
In fact, kidnappings and other crimes connected to the Mexican drug cartels are quickly spreading across the border, from Texas to California. The majority of the victims are either illegal aliens or connected to the drug trade.
An ABC News' investigation uncovered horrific cases of chopped-off hands, legs and heads when a victim's family doesn't pay up fast enough.

"They're ruthless, so now they're ripping each other off, but doing it in our city," Anderson said.

To try and combat the crime wave, the Phoenix police have created a special unit to handle the kidnappings called the Home Invasion Task Force, which has pulled more than a dozen officers off other assignments. The crimes are occurring across the valley and in all types of neighborhoods, authorities warn.

In some cases, dozens of people at a time have been kidnapped. They are often illegal aliens whose captors then demand ransom from the victims' relatives in Mexico.

Well, if you're not involved in the drug trade and haven't pissed off one of the cartels, I don't see any reason why anyone should be worried. Like the mafia, these guys typically know who they're targeting. Its unfortunate that this happens and Phoenix happens to be the #1 city in the country right now for kidnappings, but the politics and inner workings of these cartels are incredibly structured.

I do respect and appreciate your opinion. I have been doing some reading for a few hours since I posted this. In Mexico its not always the case of those that are not involved in drugs. There have been some recent cases in which Americans have been to Mexico there for vacation and they where held by gangs for money. Its been the case with some dads and mothers who have had their kids go to Mexico on spring vacation and a few days later the family gets a call to empy their bank accounts and send the money or their kids will be in pieces.

Also the "zetas" do not care who or what gets in the way. They will kill 200 people on a block if need be to just get one man. This is dangerous stuff. Jack Harris Phoenix PD Chief has still to my knowledge refused to give some officers rifles. In my opinon serious work needs to be done on this issue cause if not its only going to go down hill from here.

Phoenix will suffer for it as people flee the area. Mayor Gordon needs to make some drastic changes and if that means top brass should go--so be it.

I guess we can just look the other way--that will make everything OK right? Maybe in time Phoenix can be number 1 in kidnappings that would be great! I posted this because I want to know what I am getting into before or IF I move to Phoenix. This is not something minor like "do they allow a certain paint color on your garage door". It should be shocking to many that a US city is number 1 in the world other then Mexico City in kidnappings. Guess its ok with lots of people down there though. This story has made national news lately which is also why some people such as myself are just hearing about this.

I hope you are as casual when companies leave and good people leave Phoenix!

oak999 you are awesome! I have been trying to make the move from Oklahoma out to Phoenix but, like you, I just heard about this situation and am now having serious second thoughts. Having lived in Oklahoma basically my whole life, I always dreamed of living in the west, Arizona in particular. It is so sad that such a beautiful place is being allowed to be desecrated by crime. I wonder if it will get better now that Napalitano is gone from the state or if it will get worse because now she's in charge of the entire U.S. border (yikes!). I would like to hear more on this issue from people who live there, such as what it's really like and if people are actually leaving the area for someplace safer.

You guys are acting like babies read my response in the first thread that was posted about this a couple days ago. The reason AZ is so high in kidnappings is from the illegal alien trade. Once Coyotes smuggle them in they hold the illegals in drophouses(always on the westside in the new subdivision plagued by foreclosures) anyway they strip them from all their clothing and shake their families down for more money. So unless you are a recently smuggled over illegal you will not get kidnapped. Nobody is randomly kidnapping anyone here.

Thank you, AZ. All these news junkies have to large of an opinion for something they have no idea on, beyond the information provided on the pretty picture tube.

It sounds like there are some pretty good defensive steps you can take to make sure that you yourself don't fall victim to these kidnappings:

1.) If you're an illegal alien, return to your country of origin as quickly as possible.

2.) Don't get involved with drugs or with the drug trade.

The real solution is for the US government to get serious about having a "real" border, rather than one that is ignored and laughed at by criminals.
