Those aren't Canary Island Date Palms. They look like Mexican Fan Palms (Washingtonia).

What grows in Nebraska but prairie grass? I envision scenes of "Little House on the Prairie" when I think of Nebraska, LOL, LOL I kid...kind of!

Sadly, most of the prairie grass is gone due to farms + developers. Oh well, it's pretty ugly stuff!
However, the Arbor Day Foundation's headquarters is in Nebraska! And we have lots of big trees - Oak, Maple, Walnut! Before I ever considered moving to Arizona, I scoffed at the idea of palm trees. They just aren't normal!
I'm sure I'll grow to appreciate them, but I sure am going to miss the big leafy trees around here.

It was a joke, LOL! Anyhow, you can find neighborhoods with miles upon miles of big leafy trees around here that use palms just to enhance the already leafy appearance. Palms are normal, they grow in desert environments around the globe. 
|
