I second ibarrio's post. We love Surprise. Love our home in the city. At the same time my job in California keeps me there. For healthcare jobs such as mine it is a great place to work and live. Unfortunatly I am at a point in my carreer where the jobs are few and far between. Waiting for someone to retire in the area before we can call it home for good. The only good thing is that our Surprise home will be paid off in the next 9 years. We will also have a home in California as we are getting ready to buy there as well. Surprise is just this amazing place that is not only on track but is up and coming in their goals for the future and how the western part of the valley will look in the coming decades. We plan on retiring to the area if I never get a job there.

Thanks

Tiredofrain, I went through an extensive search, and first and foremost based on schools. I then visited over 10 schools for my two sons, going into 4th and 6th grade. My sons are half-Chinese and grew up completely in China, with Chinese as their first language. So as we moved back to the Valley after more than a decade, excellent schools with some Asians (Chinese and Indian) would be a good transition and fit.

Best elementary for us was: In north Chandler area, there is one of the best Kyrene elementary schools, Kyrene Del Cielo. 10% of its enrollment is from Asia (Asians who work in high-tech mostly). Average tenure of teachers over 15 years, and one of the highest scoring elementary schools in the larger area. Wonderful neighborhood. Your son can also apply from out of district, if you live somewhere close and can get him to school and pick him up.

What also impressed me is that they have a full time teacher, teaching English as a Second Language, if needed.

I am renting in Surprise and find it pretty far out of the city. The people are nice and the community rec center offers alot of classes so there are things to do, but Bell Rd is the DEVIL. Driving in and out of Surprise to other parts of the Valley is a bear. I would not recommend Surprise unless you work in the town or in Sun City.
