Political leaders and business executives need to start attracting major corporations and smaller upstart companies to Phoenix!

California business climate is a disaster - taxes highest in the country.

Phoenix needs to promote its low taxes, low cost of living, great university, great climate and attract new business.

Advertise, offer tax incentives, aggresively go after upstart businesses, energy business, high tech companies.

Snowbirds and tourism will always be important - however, to create a dynamic growing city of the future you must attract business and jobs for the future!

As much as I like some aspects of California, I would never live there based on the ridiculous tax rates, and the high cost of living. Also, the political climate is not to my liking: too many left wingers have taken over what used to be a moderately conservative/Libertarian state. I would prefer that Arizona, specifically the Phoenix metro area, create its own tourist/business economy, instead of promoting b.s. like "we're only 400 miles from the Pacific Ocean", or "only a half day's drive to the California theme parks". We need to be INDEPENDENT and keep the year round vacationers here!

I'm in complete agreement as well ... but you're leaving out one very important feature of Arizona that is a plus to many businesses: our right to work environment! The lack of unions should be one of the main reasons to base more company HQs here, but that is simply not happening. We need to keep the right to work laws, but increase our diversity. It's time to quit promoting the Phoenix area as a sunny retiree/snowbird haven, and start attracting younger, TALENTED, EDUCATED people. Businesses and competitive jobs should be the future.
