You're about to move out of Westchester county to Scottsdale, AZ??!!
I've known just about every square mile of it over the past 12 years and particularly North Scottsdale, CaveCreek and adjoining Carefree from a economic, social, educational, cultural and political aspect. In order to get an overview check out scottsdale-sucks.com.. read all the postings and readercomments...No it's not that bad...it's worse!
I have lived the lifestyle in the locations you're looking at and in houses even perhaps a bit more upscale, (just sold my 2 acre 4K sq ft. house in Piinacle Peak area). Finally after get stuck here for substatial business reasons ($$$). able to get myself and family outta her in late May. Actually the day my son has HS grad commencement exercises, we're booked to fly out the same evening, as my wife and I are so anxious to escape this ****hole of a town and the coming natural disasters,(May,June,July,August,September,October-unbelievable heat and bad air to add to all the other downsides).
Our big concern now is to correct the mental and educational damage inflicted on our children while stuck here for so many years.
PS. CaveCreek is a joke of a town with a a lot of rednecks running the local goverment beholden to the bar and restaurant interests that control the town. Lots of drinking, huge amount of motorcycle riders and noise, a pathetic aging Hells Angel hangout, lots of white trash and even traces of meth infiltration.
My advice to you...be careful what you wish for.
Westchester County, NY, eh? That's where my girlfriend is from, and she hates Scottsdale even more than me, and I'm the owner of the infamous website you mentioned!!
Enough said. Westchester and Scottsdale are like oil and water.
nevercoldcall, you might want to just make one giant post that tells everyone to not live in Scottsdale, and to live in Arcadia, since that's what every post of yours says, regardless of what the original poster is looking for.
Then you won't have to type it over and over on numerous posts.
Maybe you can convince the mods to make it a sticky so everyone can read it and give you rep points for being so responsive and helpful, too
The sad part is that I am being helpful. A friend of mine is a Mercedes salesman, and he told me that almost every one of his legitimately wealthy clients initially moved to Scottsdale, and wound up hating it and moving out within 1-2 years.
When you look at it that way, I really am helping people out. If I can prevent one person from moving to that Hell then having to take a hit on their house when they move out a year later, it's worth it.
Well, nevercoldcall, I think there are some definite nuggets of truth in what you say about Scottsdale, having lived there for 4 years myself. I have lived in downtown Chicago, downtown San Fran, Orange County, Scottsdale, and now Austin so I think I've got some good perspective. I think in your zeal to spread your view of Scottsdale in such an extreme way, you actually diminish the weight of the points you are trying to make, some of which are very valid.
Not everyone is fake, in debt up to their ears, and posers trying to live the so Cal lifestyle. Yes, there is definitely a percentage of folks who fall into that camp - a larger percentage than most cities, I'd say - but no higher a percentage than the people I met in south Orange County the year I lived there. In my specific neighborhood in Scottsdale - a gated subdivision of 90 homes on the Scottsdale/Carefree border - there were very few of the people you describe. I can think of 1 or 2.
Your theory seems to be that, well, if legitimately wealthy people hate it there, then it is therefore a horrible place for everyone to live and the only people who like it must be illegitimately/not really wealthy. Well, my response to that is, who made the "wealthy", however you define it, arbiters of what is a satisfactory place to live for one person or another?
As I said, there are some points of yours that are absolutely true to a certain degree. But somebody who is moving here and posting here likely has looked at places like Arcadia on the web and decided they don't want what Arcadia has to offer and they have their heart set on Scottsdale. Personally, Scottsdale was not the place for me to live long term, but for many folks, it's paradise and they couldn't be happier being there. I think the best way to be helpful on this forum is to listen to what people want and if they want to live in Scottsdale, help them be happy in Scottsdale. You can share the negative aspects of the city in such a way that prompts them to do their own investigation and discovery without being alarmist. There are positives and negatives to be found in every city.

Reason: omission
I have lived in Cave Creek for 2 years. I moved here from Fairfield County, Ct.
The taxes are way lower than the east coast and that alone makes it worthwhile. I haven't met many of the phoney Scottsdale people that some of the other posters allude to. They do exist, but I meet mostly down to earth people.
Cave Creek is less expensive then North Scottsdale. I don't really know why, I'm maybe a mile over the border. Kids in North Scottsdale go to the same school system so it isn't that. I think more people just recognize the Scottsdale name.
The town itself is a saloon town and the founder of Hells angels does live here so there are a lot of bikers in town. There are also a lot of horsey people. But, it isn't a dangerous town. I don't know if everybody looks out for each other, but there aren't things like bar brawls, etc.
A lot of what is called "Cave Creek" is technically North Phoenix with just the Cave Creek mailing address (it is where I live). There are a number of reasonable neighborhoods here.
Location: Sunny Phoenix Arizona...wishing for a beach.

We are currently living in a very nice Colonial in NY and want to downsize without skimping on materials. We are talking thick granite counters in kitchen, nicely tiled backsplash, cherry/maple cabinets, SS high-end appliances (Boush, Thermador, Viking, Jen-air, GE Monogram), oversized tiled floors throughout most of the house, double sink M baths with granite counters, sep shower/bath also tiled/glassed, oversized Master Bedroom, nice peb-tech pool. The prices they are asking in N Scottsdale's high end subdivisions are pretty damn high when you factor all this in, between 900k-1mil for a house just under 3,000 sq ft 3 bed plus den, 3 bath and a lot usually smaller than 10,000sq ft.
So, Im starting to wonder if Cave Creek may be a better choice. I am retired and won't be going back to work. My wife is planning on taking a year off from work (we are raising a 1 yr old) and then looking for work in downtown Scottsdale. She is a financial executive. We want a family oriented community because of our young daughter.
I know that prices are less in Cave Creek, but how much less. Are we talking 10-15% less or so for a nice gated community? Is Cave Creek up and coming? I would still like to make a good investment. I know N Scottsdale no longer is.
So the question is, how far of a commute during rush hour is it from Cave Creek to downtown Scottsdale/business district? How about Pheonix business district if work can't be found in Scottsdale?
Also, where do most people do there shopping for for food, clothes, electronics, furniture, etc?
How about good restaurants?
Medical facilities?
Thanks
Cave Creek up and came in like 1999 and is still up 1997 was the time to get an acre for 30,000.

I'm curious as to when you lived in Scottsdale. Most people who are fleeing agree that it's gotten REALLY bad just in the last 2 years or so. That's when the "real estate cult" really took over and the town was overrun with fake-breasted botox-infested freaks.
I'll be the first to admit that it was a nice place to live the first few years I was there, around 2000-2003, then it was all downhill from there.
I hear it was a really great place to live in the 90s and doesn't even resemble that today.

I find it telling that you, "for substantial business reasons ($$$$)" stayed in a Hellhole that inflicted mental and educational damage to your children. Great Dad you are! Seems you really didn't fit into N. Scottsdale at all. You are much more of a bottom feeder....sacrificing the well being of said kiddies to your need for $$$$.
I know this is a reply to an old thread, but these kind of bitter posts really tickle me. I think you might take a peek in the mirror if you are finding your present surroundings, yet again, difficult.
As far as N. Scottsdale being a hellhole, well I guess it's all in the perception. I don't live there, I live in Carefree. I do go to N. Scottsdale a lot for shopping, etc. I've met nice people, creeps, the superficial and the down to earth. I kind of imagine it's the same in most cities.

Must be a party being you.
It was a great party with my family in Europe for the past 4 months due to my "bottom feeder" ethics, as you judge.
Yeah Carefree... know it extremely well... for a time owned and lived on Stagecoach Pass on the east side of Black Mtn....the Riviera of the Valley of the Sun.....the place where old people go to visit their parents.
