So far, I have learned that Mesa is "bad," but this is south of most of the "bad" Mesa areas, does it still count as "bad?" The houses here are new, huge, with huge lots, etc, and very inexpensive compared to West Chandler (between 10 and 101) and Octotillo. But, would we be in constant fear of someone breaking in more-so than if we were to buy in Gilbert or West Chandler?
Please see attached image. Thank you for your help!

Do you know anything about the area in which I have circled red on this attached map? SE Mesa-mesa.jpg

The areas you circled are good areas. The bad areas in Mesa are around downtown and Fiesta Mall

Wow, that close to AJ? That's way out there. Should be fine. Calling Mesa "bad" is hyperbole in my opinion. It has it's seedier rundown areas but I feel safe in every part of Mesa I've been to (including near downtown and Fiesta Mall).

Mesa gets a way overly bad rap on this forum. Like any relatively large city, it's got good and bad areas.

I was never saying it is a horrible ghetto just letting them know those areas are the most run down. I have actually lived in those areas aswell and you could see the shift, because it was starting to get overrun by illegals and the business and signs were chning to spanish instead of english.

No, you would not have to live in fear in those areas. I won't say they are the most attractive areas of the city of Mesa, but your fears are really overblown by some the vitriol that has been talked about on this forum.

I'd absolutely suggest you also look at the areas of Mesa NORTH of the Superstition Freeway (Rt 60). Newer and prettier, IMO. With spots that are not so new, including RV parks, which you will find everywhere here (including Chandler, Mesa, Gilbert, etc. etc. etc.)

And please - rent first, okay?

Half of the left rectangle (west of Power Rd) is Gilbert. The right half is Mesa and is a good area.

North of the proving grounds in your circle is good.

Part of those two areas are in the Gilbert School district

The rectangle to the right, and as you go south are newer homes.
That area will become more popular and more built up as the General Motors Proving Grounds project begins before the end of 2013. There will be a Gaylord convention center (like Opryland) and a second convention center is proposed, plus much much more. That will be a huge growth area.

We live just West of Santa Rita Ranch. Great area. Near freeways, stores, etc. Never had a crime problem. Stay south of the 60.
