Is zip code 85009 or nearby a good/safe place to buy a foreclosed property??
What are the good areas to buy a property now and what are the areas to avoid?? Is zip code 85009 a good area to buy foreclosed property or is that like one of the worst areas in Phoenix to buy one?? I read that there were many gang wars and violence in 2007, is it still bad in that area?? Is 85009 considered "south Phoenix".. Would like to know.. Any information regarding Zip code 85009 and nearby areas would be helpful... How does that area compared to other areas in phoenix?? Is it considered a high crime area and generally unsafe or what? Are there still a lot of gang activity and violence in that area? Is it a safe/good area to buy a foreclosed property? Any info. would be helpful. Thanks.

The part of 85009 that I know is a bad and ugly area. Low income, high crime, nearly 100% hispanic. The stores all have Spanish signage. Looks like it is straight out of Mexico. It is the location of the county Durango facilities including the infamous "Tent City" and several jails as well as the former Phoenix landfill.

Boundaries from Thomas to the river, 19th Ave to 43rd Ave.
It would not be my choice of area to buy a foreclosed home either to live in or to rent out.

I vote Stay Away from this area, for the same reasons as listed above.

Looks like you have plenty of feedback already... The area can be bad, but it depends on your tolerance levels. Try to get into a gated community... Don't plan on being able to run up to the gas station after dark without being strapped. You WILL here gun shots on a daily basis. Over all though, it can be tolerable. You'd better off trying to get out near Lavine... 51st ave and Baseline area... Still ghetto, but not as bad.

That would be LAVEEN, actually.
The south central Phoenix area igenerally is not a good choice. There are lots of better areas-- if you have questions about other specific areas, that might be the easiest way to help you.
