Tempe might be the best location because it's rather inexpensive, and attracts lots of younger, single people (mainly due to the nightlife along Mill Avenue).
I'm not sure what the cost of living is like in Minnesota, but it's not as cheap as it used to be in the Phoenix area ... so don't expect something decent or fun for a low price. You might be able to get a foreclosed home for a decent price in a far flung suburban area (Maricopa, Queen Creek, Buckeye, Surprise, Anthem, etc.), but those places are more geared toward families or older folks.

I am looking to rent. I am tired of homeownership for now and the headaches that come with it! Anyhow, the cost of living in Phoenix is supposedly lower than Minneapolis...at least, thats what the studies tell me. Odds are, I will be looking at spending around $900/month for rent, maybe more.

Perla, Thanks for your candor! I appreciate the honesty. I live in the humidity, and I am pretty much allergic to everything that thrives in it. I think that in the dry weather I can finally stop sneezing! Guys in Minnesota also have their fare share of negatives…Maybe it’s just them? Lol. I know of a few guys like the ones you described. Where do you live now?
LVD, I am not sure why you are so negative. Are you making it your personal mission to ensure that people do not move to Phoenix? Obviously I have not been to the area. I mentioned that already. I am just trying to find which spots I should be visiting when I come. If you don’t have any advice, why boher posting?
Valley Native, I don’t know how I would react to the heat…but I do know that 3 months of temps below 0 and windchills in the -50 to -70 range are something I am dying to be rid of. I agree with you Trudawg. At least in the heat you don’t have to worry about wet, cold feet, shoveling, or losing your ear lobes to frostbite because the wind blew off your earmuffs.

Yeah the weather has got to be better than Minneapolis. Although I know a girl who grew up in Phoenix and moved to Minn and loved it. Everyone is different! Phoenix is not an awful place. It just didn't work for me personally. I live in the Wash DC area now. I grew up here and am used to the dating scene here. I meet/date CEOs, lots of attourneys, MBA and PHD grads, financial advisors, etc etc. I am used to the intellectual component which was lacking for me in PHX. And you're right boys will be boys wherever you go.
Just a side note about the allergies. They are usually worse here for some people. Since there is very little rain, very little of the pollens and allergens get washed away. They are perpetually in the air you breathe. There are allergy centers (and plastic surgery centers) all over the place there. My sinuses were always clogged and you may get nose bleeds from time to time.
Positive... It's a clean city. Not much traffic relative to other big cities. There is cheap housing. Beautiful sunsets. Friendly people (relatively). Lots of yoga centers, organic food stores. Shopping is decent but wasn't as great as it is here (not as many boutiques and we have Jimmy Choo in Maryland). But LA and San Diego are 6 hours away. Las Vegas is 4 hours. 5th Avenue, Scottsdale is fun (art galleries and bars). Cave Creek has some western looking bars and has old west looking shops. I like Paradise Valley better than Scottsdale but both are nice places. Skip downtown... nobody goes out there. East side is better than west side. Stingray Sushi is great in Scottsdale. Kierlands outdoor mall. Great spas.

Oh yeah and look up Valley Fever on the internet. Most people get this fungal infection when they move out there. While it's usually flu like in symptoms it usually doesn't do much harm to the body. About 5% of people get lung complications. Once you get it you never get rid of it. I never got it while out there but it's also something I wish I knew about before I moved there.
Dust storms kinda suck too. During my first one I thought it was just a wind storm so I opened all the windows. I was starting to miss rainstorms. Then my boyfriend at the time started running around the apartment saying "ahhh shut the windows!"
Oh and you have to wash your car once a week to get the dust off.
Again sorry so negative.
