While the area is expensive, I don't think you'll have any problems finding a house in that range.
Another great area of Phoenix is along Central Ave between Northern and Bethany Home. The area is like nothing else in Phoenix and has many high end homes, plus it's literally just a few miles north of the downtown area if that is where you will be working. |

$1M - $1.2M will get you a lot of house in that area and in a great neighborhood to boot.
Good move on not buying for now, same here, just moved to Newport Beach where prices are seriously plummetting. Pretty much the same situation as Arizona. |

I almost took a job in the newport beach but in the last minute I backed out as the phoenix offer was much better, I reallly loved the OC and specifically newport beach though...I will probably regret my decison for a very long time!
