Fountain Hills was developed by the McCullough chainsaw company starting in the late 1960s...they also developed Lake Havasu City, AZ, with London Bridge as the draw rather than a big fountain.....
I've been in the Phx/Scottsdale area since age 12 (1975) and have seen FH grow a lot....to me, it's a "poor man"'s Scottsdale....that's the rep I'd give it as a longtime Phx-area resident....though it certainly has multi-million dollar houses, it just doesn't have an established feel....it does have great views from many areas and is entirely serviced by all the usual chains and stores.....
the drive to/fro the main Scottsdale area along Shea is fast-paced and full of "very important" drivers, but the road is newly widened and relatively safe.....
re: snobs in FH....gotta laugh at that as FH never seemed snob-worthy to me....certainly not a slum at all, but it's just missing the "cachet" of Scottsdale or Town Of Paradise Valley - maybe because it's such a new area and hasn't developed an aura.....it's a big area and there are dull apartment complexes, older, tired tract homes, and newer, gated McMansions in the currently-hot Tuscan design (the "harvest-gold" of the early 2000s)......to me, FH is just a very big housing development with no soul or mood.....but, again, it has great views from some areas, is one step below Scottsdale/Town Of Paradise Valley/Carefree in average housing prices, is a bit quieter feeling then "metro" Phx, has a variety of housing choices, has a variety of residents........and maybe that's all I can think of about the positives........
