I really want to get a metal screen door for the front entrance, so I could have the door open and not to worry about my pets getting out. I went to Home Depot and saw one for $1000, installed. That is really a lot of money, even for including installation. Is there anywhere in the EV I can get a new or gently used paintable metal screen door for less? ( I will ahve to paint it to match HOA approved color.)

And while I am at this, I would like to know how easy is this to install by myself??

Thanks.

Sorry I do not have an answer, but hopefully getting your post back to the top will get you a response from someone who does.

We bought one at Home Depot or Lowes for I think under 200, and then had to buy the lock kit and install supplies and it was I believe under $500, but they only had it in a few basic colors and styles and I don't know if it was paintable... They have custom ones you can order that you can get in a variety of colors and styles but they're quite pricey. My husband and his dad put ours in and didn't have too many issues.

Yeah I have seen them for home depot and lowes for only a few hundred... and it shouldn't be that hard to install it yourself. Good luck.

Try the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store. They have a couple of locations in the valley. I have seen metal security doors in excellent condition for under $30.

Are you looking for one of those heavy steel doors, or the old fashioned lighter weight ones?

I spent $1000 for the metal ones from Home Depot. They are well designed, durable, and rust resistant. Well worth it to me. My folks used cheaper pre-made doors that rust and aren't as nice, but work ok for them.

I just got a new security door for my front door from a company called First Impressions in Gilbert. I bought one that was a special for $700. installed with lock sets keyed to all my other locks. I think it was a discontinued design for $150. off. The better doors are custom to fit with bottom sweeps and weatherstrip all around. The Home Depot cheap stuff is one size fits all. They don't look good or fit right. The custom door companies have 30 or more colors that are powder coated. Boy does mine look nice!

We got lucky--our home already had them installed--the good ones, not from Home Depot or Lowe's. And I did paint ours, easy with a pressure painter after sanding. Love these doors. They have the plate around the locks/deadbolts so they can't be messed with.
