They really like it out there, although there is little there as far as gas stations, supermarkets, etc. I live in Surprise and there are ways of getting through traffic much faster, but everyone's right... we're a ways out here! I tested several ways and taking surface streets is the best bet. You can PM me if you want my little turn-by-turn trick to getting there faster. I'd say that you'll want to be in east Surprise if you're going into Phoenix. I think the best part of Surprise for commuters and those not wanting to buy into the old Surprise where houses went for 100k need to stay South of Greenway, North of Olive, West of Litchfield and East of Reems (there's a lot that's nice and new west of Reems, but it's just a longer commute from that area).

Hello all,
i finally took all your advice. We came to phoenix and stayed their for a month. As mnay people rightly pointed out,i too agree on the following notions
laveen: does not look safe by any means
gilbert: too far if you work in downtown as in our case
west valley (goodyear, ltchfield surprise, buckeye): too far, however, traffic is better than driving from east valley into downtown phoenix
North phoenix (happy valley): not a bad area ,however the drive is still long but i am still strongly considering it
Other areas that we plan to consider: arrowhead area glendale, north east phoenix around bell road, union hills squaw peak area, some parts of south tempe, and some other areas in north phoenix.
I shall keep you all posted of my final decisions and will contact you for more advice.
My observations are completely unbiased sicne i do not live in phoenix.

These are all great areas. But what I am noticing (since I was a realtor) that the resale values are holding better in the NE areas where you are looking. We couldn't decide on the areas of Bell/Tatum and Union Hills and the 51 and the area of I-17 and Happy Valley. We chose the HV house and the prices dropped. When I check on houses in the other two areas they have held steady! Something to think about.

Laveen, AZ
It is great difference between peoples past impression and reality of Laveen.
There are, and there will be a lot changes in this new area.
I have been live in Laveen for 3 months. I feel it is convient, safe and family oriented area. I also feel it is just as good investiment as I bought property in scottsdale few years ago. If you do not mind people with different colors, please go there to look. It is most likely you will enjoy there.
Good Luck!!!

If you like natural beauty, if you do not mind people with different colors, I suggest you go to the area. Most likely, you will like it.
With best wishes!

I drive to Phoenix during morning rush hour from Gilbert every once in a while and it has never taken me over one hour.

Keep in mind that in the east and north east valley you are driving to and from work with the sun behind you.
If you are in the west, you're driving to work with the sun in your eyes both directions.
