There may be others.

I'm guessing you are referring to their service. I've learned that when you get a rude tech support person, just hang up and call back. You will get a new person and they are usually friendlier. Cox is hit or miss with their service. I remember calling a tech support guy if he could help me hook up a router and he pulled the legalese on me and said he was restricted from providing that type of advice so I called back and got a friendlier person who had no issue giving me advice to help me set it up.

To be honest, Cox is one of the better ones if you can believe that. The others are worse.

Qwest is Cox's main competitor, but I don't think that they are available everywhere.

I have been very happy with Cox. My only dealings with them have been for installation of services and accessing my account on-line. All three times I moved there were minor, but they are always taken care of within a couple of days and I never had to call them again after that.

They do raise their rates but it will be hard to find cheaper rates with other options. When you account for their bundle package (Cable, internet and phone), it's a pretty reasonable option.

I have the bundle, but it is over $150 w/ dvr, etc. They also like to change the bundles frequently so that when you call to ask questions they no longer offer the bundle you have, it just seems hard to get a straight answer out of them, they are like cheap salespeople and I am tired of them.

Yeah, I have that exact package you are paying for. It is expensive but relative to other deals, you are not going to better deal. You will see. Trust me, I looked into other options including satellite and Qwest. Everyone advertises a great deal but when you get down to actually signing up with them, you will see they have these other costs and expenses that were not included in their initial pitches. Qwest is horrible. They used to be U.S. West and it was affectionately known as U.S. Worst in the valley as their service makes Cox look like you are shopping at Nordstrom. With Qwest, I used to receive phantom charges at least once every other month and I would have to call and have it taken off. At least, Cox is reliable in that regard. I don't like Cox either but it's the better of two evil in my opinion.

Their customer service is light years ahead of ATT. ATT wanted me to pay for a phone line that a moving van tore down in front of our house. Wasn't my van either.

you know that you can negotiate a loyalty price with Cox...

If you have been a good customer for a few years and call them up and ask them...

just like with Cell Phones...you should never pay the going rate if you have been a good customer..
