AAA as in the taxicab company or the American Auto Association?

Perhaps you had not worked long enough to earn sufficent credits for unemployment

Doesn't sound like a base period problem. It sounds like they are just that backed up. They have to find a way to handle this more efficiently.

It's been in the national news recently that some states are way behind in unemployment payments because they're low on cash. It's not just Arizona.

I am not going to get on my soap box and say I told you so, we shouldn't have driven all the manufacturing jobs offshore with overregulation and overtaxation of corporate profits. No one wants to hear that right now and this is the wrong thread. So I'll just keep my mouth shut.
Talk about denial. So it's our fault that we drove the manufacturing jobs offshore due to "overregulation" Guess what, they would have gone offshore regardless because the labor costs are extraordinary low overseas and no amount of reduced taxation would have kept those jobs here. If we did impose some forms of socialism those jobs wouldn't have been lost. Right now American steel jobs are being preserved due to socialist and protectionist ideaologies that were imposed in the economic revivalist plans that require any steel that is used must be American steel. Yes, those same evil socialist ideas are keeping thousands of people employed in the steel industry in the United States.

It's funny because people are brainwashed from an early age to hate the term socialism when the reality is our economy has always been a mixed economy that's espoused both capitalist and socialist ideas. Under the Bush era, there was an increased effort to deregulate which is what caused this problem in the first place as nothing was done to encourage companies to employ people in the United States and to regulate the lending industry.

Without our socialist component, this country becomes like India where people without jobs receive no assistance whatsoever. There is no welfare there. If you don't have a job, you starve. That's capitalism in its pure form. Is that what you want? But of course, people don't want to admit they were wrong so they will rationalize their unemployment checks as being non-socialist. Uh huh, guess again

There are a few exceptions - non-profit organizations can arrange an alternative for example - but by and large, companies are REQUIRED to pay it - so it's really a tax. In this case the taxes are selectively levied against businesses rather than individuals, but it's still a tax - so it's a tax on somebody else that funnels money to YOU - sort of a "redistribution of wealth" kind of thing (isn't that something else you've complained bitterly about?): take money from the "rich" (business owners) and funnel it to the "poor" (in this case you).
Pretty Socialistic actually.

You may find that distasteful and refuse to admit it, but that's exactly what it is - and like most other people, when it's a matter of YOU receiving something from a "socialistic" program you are certainly willing to do it - and I suspect that if you still don't have a job when your unemployment runs out, you'll be more than willing to accept Foodstamps, Welfare or whatever other "Socialist" help the government is willing to provide. People in need are in NEED - and rarely turn away help (no matter what the source of that help).

Again, just sayin...

(Standing Ovation)

A lot of people need to read this. Many are confused regarding how unemployment benefits work. It's a socialist element to our government regardless of how people try to spin it. It's funny because people rip on socialist policies until they need them.

No, I rip them because I'll never need them. I can flip burgers or pump gas for more than unemployment pays in AZ. I know not everyone lives in an area where this is a better deal than collecting unemployment, but it is where I live. My sister lives in Washington state and the unemployment there is something like $650 per week. When it's that high, why even bother working? She's vacationing in New Zealand now and collecting unemployment. What a joke. I think unemployment should be low enough that it encourages folks to get off it any way they can.
