Question Traffic lights

Ever now and then I'll have to stop at a red light even though there are no cars or pedestrians waiting to cross. This is a waste of time and fuel. If I cry to the city about it, will they fix it?

I doubt it, but it's not a bad idea to call the city traffic engineer's office and tell them. Is it the same light doing this all the time? Most of those are "demand" lights, so that they don't change if a vehicle doesn't trip the sensor or a pedestrian doesn't push the button to cross. But I'm not sure they are all that way, or that if it malfunctions once it is gonig to do it 24 hours a day. They can probably tell you a lot more about how they work, or are supposed to work.

Mostly lights in minor intersections although there is a really annoying light going southbound on 51st Ave. You're coming down the bridge over Grand Ave, building momentum and the first light there almost always turns red. They probably don't have the magnetic sensors.

What about the light at Alma School and Ocotillo with the camera that randomly flashes entire strings of cars in succession while crossing the intersection during a green light. Happened to me 3 times now....

Me? If I'm at a stop light and there's no traffic, I look around, no cops, GO!
Same with these right light arrows.

You're doing the environment a real favor by not idling at that intersection and wasting precious oil.

But be a little careful, to those who may be behind you. Oftentimes, I'll accelerate and the car behind me will accelerate as well, as if on autopilot.
So, for safety reasons, do it only if no one is behind you.

You are still running the red light!! No buts about it. Try getting stuck at a red light with a motorcycle with no car around you...
