Neither is close to much, but let's just say that Fountain Hills is less removed from the Phoenix Metro Area. From Fountain Hills, it's a straight shot down Shea into north Scottsdale and onto the 101 Freeway. Rio Verde would require a much longer drive along Dynamite and then along Pima in order to get to the 101. I think both have amazing views of the McDowell Mountains, Four Peaks, etc., but the view will depend somewhat on the specific location within each community.

just curious more than anything.. a realtor was pushing the rio verde area pretty hard to us and i had nothing to compare it to, but i have been to fountain hills and found that quite out of the way. i also heard that the roads are gravel and get washed out sometimes of the yr?? not sure if this accurate.

No gravel rds in Fountain Hills, I don't think. In Rio Verde, yes. And some of them are VERY bumpy.

Both areas are beautiful but Rio Verde area is more high end than Fountain Hills. Rio Verde in North Scottsdale is surrounded by much larger and more expensive estates. I think all the lots are atleast one acre while Fountain Hills has some track homes. Fountain Hills is still very nice though.

Rio Verde is a separate community, and not part of north Scottsdale. In fact, it seems pretty isolated because it's out in a desert area away from most everything. It's a little closer to Fountain Hills, but still pretty tucked away for the most part.

I remember taking a drive through Rio Verde a few years ago, and seeing coyotes along the main street. I didn't recall any bumpy, gravel roads ... in fact, all of them are paved in the main town area. It's a little too far away from everything, though. Rio Verde is certainly a nice, small upscale community, and I can see the possibililty of living there if you're well off and retired ... but it's not for somebody who likes amenities within a close proximity, and doesn't like long commutes.

Rio Verde you need at least 15 minutes to a grocery store, Fountain Hills is a normal 2 minutes drive. Rio Verde is not a city at all, it's just open land of homes with no gas stations or grocery stores nearby, however Fountain Hills is a small city which has grocery stores and gas stations like any other city. Fountain Hills is closer to most of the valley.

There is plans for a grocery store on 180th st and Rio Verde Drive and Alma School and Dynamite in the next couple years. The new Vista Verde golf course is building 800 new homes and starting construction on the golf course South of Rio Verde Drive. This area is quickly becoming much more developed.

A.K.A., more sprawl...Where the heck is 180th St...LOL, I kid but that's far...at least the home sites are low density. so maybe some "nature" will be preserved.
