Yeah, imho, they should all be done by private sectors! It doesn't make any sense to use tax payers' $$ since none of the tax payers get to watch any games for free!

Regardless, I hope they build it soon cuz I luv roller-coaster rides!

We had one for 20 years. Okay, it wasn't Disneyland, but for Phoenix in the early sixties, it didn't suck.

Wallace and Ladmo! (Still sad I never got a Ladmo bag) Hmm. My mom moved here in the late 50's. I'll have to ask if she ever went there. There are some nice old pics on their site! We have Castles and Coasters too, but it looks pretty lame, so I've never been there.

Castles and Coasters? Yuck! Legend City was an honest to God Theme Park! I dug through some other info about it on the internet. I was surprised to find that it was actually the 5th largest Amusement Park in the U.S. in 1964; Sixty acres. I got Hub Kapp's autograph after an evening show at the Lagoon Amphitheater. Too bad neither Legend City nor the autograph survived...

I asked my mom today if she remembered it and she said she'd forgotten about it, but that she used to go all the time. She said it was a big date hangout. She even sang there a few times, and one of her best friends in high school had a regular show there every week. I love hearing about AZ history (even though it's short). I just wish they wouldn't tear everything down in favor of new and shiny things.

That's something to hate about Phoenix. That area is unrecognizable compared to 25 years ago. Legend City sat at 56th and Washington. The land was sold to SRP and the existing roads realigned and new ones added. The SRP headquarters and many other businesses are there now.

When I was a kid, everything we needed for entertainment was right there within a mile or so: Legend City, Phoenix Municipal Stadium to watch the Phoenix Giants (AAA baseball), Papago Park for hiking to 'Hole in the Rock' and fishing for carp and bluegill, the Phoenix Zoo and of course the Botanical Garden which we never went to (why drive through the desert filled with cacti, then pay to enter a 'garden' to look at desert and cacti?)

Tell your Mom I taped the final week of the Wallace and Ladmo show (very poor quality). Also a trivia question for her...Who got the LAST Ladmo Bag on the last show?

As for me, I just hate AZ. I hate all that sunshine. I hate not having to lock my doors for fear of not being victimized. I hate the low property taxes (compared to CA). I hate the massive movie theaters. I hate the spirit of individuality in AZ. I hate the $.50 per gallon lower gas prices. I hate the fact that AZ schools want to make sure students can speak English. I hate the most beautiful sunsets in the world. I hate the smell of the Valley afte a downpour. I hate the amazing thunderstorms and monsoons. I hate all the camping, fishing, and hiking. Gahhh, what a horrid place this Arizona. Sure it has real problems like everywhere else, but these are the things I really really hate about Arizona.

We live in Memphis and have been thinking about where we would like to move to and phoenix has been at the top of our list! Your passion for the state is not the first we have come across. We definitely are making the move before school starts!!

I hate that I sit here and my friends make fun of me because I am laughing so hard my sides hurt.

I have alway liked Phoenix and more than likely always will! Don't let someone from Chicago or LA tell you that Phoenix is trash. I think anyone from Chicago, thats sits and bashes about the supposed woes of Phoenix should take the statement, don't throw stones, if you live in a glass house to serious considertion.

Excellent post!
