Careful what you wish for. Everyone leaving would bottom out the growth and real estate-based economy, and things would get pretty bad for everyone left. Take a good look at Detroit- that's what AZ would become if the population were to suddenly begin shrinking.

Steve22 I am curious as to where you live now. Have you lived in AZ? Someone or something must have hurt you badly for you to keep coming here and trashing the Phoenix forum. If you are content with the state you live in now (if not AZ) then go there and tell others how great it is.

Steve22 is right - is everyone who COULD leave did, it would leave those who couldn't - and the downward spiral would start..

Many of steve22's posts are thoughtful (albeit filled with highly subjective impressions of our area) and I enjoy reading them. This one was not. |

All one has to do is look at the Phoenix forum compared to the other forums...no other forum has so many negative posts as this one. Sorry but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.....

. But for facts, one should look at migration data, levels of growth, investment patterns. I don't care what reasonable, objective metric you want to apply, Phoenix is HOT, HOT, HOT and not just in the temperatures. It may not appeal to you personally, but in the larger, less subjective view people want to live here and are making the choice to come here literally by the hundreds each day, every day.Last edited by Ponderosa; 10-01-2007 at 08:07 PM.. |

Your observation that people leaving only makes room for more to show up can't continue ad nauseum forever. Sooner or later, resources will get too scarce and/or expensive, the pollution or overwhelming heat will keep folks away, all these employers creating new job growth in the Valley will find the next big cheap place to relocate, or any of a number of scenarios. And then the allure won't be what it once was. All you have to do is look at L.A. as an example. After decades of being the "hot" place to live, thanks to poor urban planning, gridlock, pollution, and outrageous sprawl, in addition to the skyrocketing cost of living, L.A. now has a net population loss on annual basis. The middle class there has largely left, and now it's basically a city of 2 classes: the super-rich and the impoverished. I didn't say that that would ever happen for sure to Phoenix; I was just responding, theoretically, to the poster who wished everyone would just leave. That, theoretically, would be bad for Phoenix. |

![]() Those who are staying yet hating this city is not making anyone's life any easier! Think about it, if you hate this city and living here seems like a punishment then it is quite likely that you are making the lives of those who interact with you more difficult as well! When and If, I really get sick of this city, or of any city for that matter, I will seek better luck else where instead. On the way out, don't let the cacti hit you where the good Lord split you... ![]() Love, peace and chicken grease! |
