Then again, I think the whole scorpian, spider and snake thing is completely overblown here too. Sure they are around, but it's not like you have to watch where you're walking all the time.
They may actually be toads. When I lived up in Fletcher Heights in N. Peoria we got TONS of them! They were jumping all over the place. They were the size of quarters and so so cute. I was in awe. I've been here my whole life and never saw the before. We had about 5 of them by our front door.

Oh heck, cut me some slack. Hence the reason why I made sure to point out that I am, indeed, a HORRIBLE speller and a worse typist!

I can chase my javelina all the way to Scottsdale if you'd like! She happened to be my first visitor at the final inspection of my house.

Our school systems in Phoenix and it's suburbs today are horrifically underfunded.

And the frog thing - where in PHOENIX have you seen a frog?????? Up north perhaps, but I've yet to see one with my own two eyes since moving here too many years ago.

Ok. To be technical, yes that was a typo on my end. I left a letter off of the word. My bad. I should use proper typing skills to avoid typos.

However, "vegitation" is a phonetic misspelling of the word, not a typo, since the "i" and the "e" are not near each other on the keyboard (unless the poster is using a different format on his/her keyboard). Yes, typos do happen, but since "vegitation" is a misspelling and not a typo, and since the poster was insulting the educational system of which I partook, I'm going to correct.

Also, a tip to anyone else who doesn't like misspellings and typos, if you use Mozilla, you'll have errors pointed out to you. Whenever I notice my own typos, I correct them. I'm also an avid user of dictionary.com to check definitions and spellings.

I don't live in a jam packed cookie cutter neighborhood, so the frogs have lots of space to roam around, especially since we have lots of insects/arachnids for them to eat (and irrigation for breeding water), including many scorpions. We've counted bark scorpions around our house by the hundreds. Some diamotaceous earth took care of most of them, but it is most definitely an issue in our neighborhood. Some areas don't have a problem, but it does happen in other areas. I know several people who have been stung, and one whose 2 year old daughter was stung and went into convulsions. It's scary, but somewhat preventable. So, I disagree that it's an overblown issue. It's just that some people live in areas where people tend to never see scorpions so it seems unbelievable that other areas can have infestations.

So yes, Phoenix has negatives, for sure, but I still love it, so I will defend my public school educational background. Yes, funding has been tight, but my teachers still taught me enough for me to know how to spell correctly, and they inspired me to think for and educate myself.

You may be right actually. They might be toads. I have seen quite a few around my house when it rains. I actually slow down when I drive through my neighborhood so I don't run them over. Also, I can hear them chirping when it rains and when the irrigation is going.

It was quite interesting, that's for sure. I would drive and stop at the mailbox and I remember once or twice they would jump under my car. I would NOT move my car until I knew they were out of the way. I love living creatures and would never want to run them over. So, during that time I had a hard time driving down my street. They are smart and I think they know to stay to the side.

I had to do a little research and they looked like the pics of toads, possibly the colorado toad? That kinda rings a bell, but I could very well be wrong.

Every time my boyfriend would walk out the door I'd yell at him to be careful not to step on them. They are quick little guys and jump right out of your way. I had a good time with them that's for sure.

I don't have much experience with amphibians (obviously) so I bet that you're right. Toads sound more like desert creatures than frogs.

I hate the thought of smashing them too. They're not hurting anyone.

I do remember walking out one day and checking the irrigation water because we sometimes have baby chicks that get stranded on a berm (we don't run the irrigation every month to conserve water now though). Anyway, there are usually small fish in the water, but this time I looked and there were little tadpoles swimming around. I almost wanted to catch one and raise it
