So now you all know how I feel about living here. I won't get into the myriad of reasons I dislike it here (or maybe I will but, summed up, there is nothing to do that interests me here. I've tried hiking and what a joke. Movies bore me, as do chain restaurants. Hmmm, malls, strip malls on every corner. There is a reason people ask which corner things are located on here. Hmmm, not much else to do here. I'm not interested in sports, so that is out. I hate the traffic and I hate the way people drive here.

Now, on a positive note - I do own my house free and clear. I do have almost a half an acre lot in a quiet neighborhood in N. Scottsdale. If it were not for this fact, there is absolutely noooooooooooo way I'd live here. I like the Filiberto type drive-thrus. I like my roses. I like the fact that after a long hot summer and cold winter, there has been a bit of a Spring which has been pleasant. I like Ranch 99 market and am grateful it's here. There is another Asian market down south I can go to, if I get really bored. They have enlarged the "lake" (how does one enlarge a lake, you might ask) down on Chaparral and Hayden. It is better than nothing. Tempe town lake? Pulease, unless you don't mind a man-made river bed filled in with water with planes flying over every minute and looking at a bunch of electrical lines during your "nature walk." But some folks might think this is just dandy, so I don't want to rain on their parade.

In short, I wish I could still sell my house, but that's out. I should have struck while the iron was hot, and it's quite cold now.

That's my two cents. A "real" I hate Phoenix post and why.

Hey, I just thought of one more thing I really like here - NovaM radio and it just happens to be from Phoenix. Would die without it - either that or stream it from anywhere else . But it does say something positive about Phoenix. The are "some" really interesting people who live here, even if most everyone who lives here is conservative. If John McCain is our next president, I'll just shoot myself. Maybe he'll have sheriff joe run along side him.
I imagine you hated Phx a few years ago when real estate was doing great. Why didn't you sell then and move? I see an awful lot of posts by PHX haters that just detest PHX but don't leave. I've never gotten a rational response. What is yours....I'm curious.

Oh, I've tried listening to Nova M/Air America. IMHO this is a horrible station. The one listenable on air person is Rachael Maddow and she is not very good. Does have a pleasant voice and delivery, sounds professional and dosen't rant insanely like most of the rest do. Randi Rhodes? Very illogical, hysterical driven by irrational emotions, plus VERY rude and unprofessional. Again, just my take. Mike Malloy? Nut job, hysteric. Well, I could go on. I am conservative but love radio as I work at home...I really enjoy NPR both national and local...so I am open to liberal views. I just can't take the hysterical screaming and irrational conspiracy theory stuff. My favorite channel is 960...it's very conservative and some VERY smart people broadcast syndicated shows there (again my opinion). Dennis Prager, is my favorite...a very smart guy. How I wish one of the leftists from Air America would debate him on ANY topic! They shake in fear at the mention of it. He begs for a debate....but like Mr. Obama is doing now....run away because they know it would be a blood bath. Anyway, if you like radio you should check out the other side of the political spectrum at 960.

No, actually, and I don't know if you are being sarcastic, but I really liked to move down here from the Bay Area and buy what I bought. Why didn't I sell? Because I just moved here before the houses appreciated so much in value. I've been lucky in that regard. Buy low, sell high. However, now, I cannot sell without a real hit, and I'm not willing to do that yet. There are other factors, which I won't get into.

Regarding NovaM, you are a conservative. I won't hijack this thread, but I just don't get conservatives. I do uphold conservative values, but there is NOTHING going on in DC that is conservative.

And, BTW, you should check out Ron Paul, who is a TRUE conservative. Just google on Ron Paul Neoconned.

I'm totally with you. I used to listen to a lot of NPR when I had a long commute. Now, I work a mile from home, so I don't listen much anymore. However, besides the variety of programming (and mostly calm, rational debates) on NPR, I also like the local reporting that KJZZ does, including the open line times with Napolitano.

I am also known for listening to KFYI on occasion, though I avoid it during rush hour! Why radio stations think that arguing, yelling and blaring commercials are a good thing when people are already on edge because of traffic, I have no idea. That's why I've always stuck with NPR during those times. But late at night, I do enjoy some Coast to Coast on 500 AM (KFYI), whether it's interesting, or to chuckle at the kooks who call in sometimes

This has to be the most fantastically successful thread ever started. Henry Ford, Ray Kroc, and Sam Walton would be proud!

Phoenix sucks cause you dry off so fast that you don't get to experience the true joys of swamp ass all day. Damn, why do I live here again? this place really sucks!!
I might as well ask this one time. Doesn't sound good...My father used to say "ask a question and sound stupid once. Don't ask the question and you might stay stupid forever" So , what is swamp ass?

It's probably what you think it is. I just looked it up on http://www.urbandictionary.com, but I don't want to post any of those definitions here.

Perhaps you might have to revise his saying with this:

"Best to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Default This is Fun

Can I just say that as a 4th generation Arizonan, it's so much fun to see people coming together as "heat haters." I've tried to escape this place many times, but as many have already alluded, the positives here outweigh the negatives other places back east, mid-west, and even the self-professed paradise that is California. And so now we're raising a 5th generation!

Weather, water and electric bills aside, my only REAL issue with Phoenix is intolerance. We are the land of Goldwater and sensible conservativism, but we are also the land of some pretty crazy liberals going back at least 100 years. It seems that in recent years the friendly competition between these groups has disintegrated into total nonsense, especially on the immigration issue. I HATE that Arizonans are so ignorant about the border situation. Why are we attacking the families escaping here from warlords and famine rather than the Washington fat cats who refuse to enact effective border legislation? If I were the head of a starving Mexican family, and I couldn't get a visa, you better believe I'd bring my family here illegally if necessary rather than die! I'm not happy about the circumstances, but let's be reasonable and look at the real culprits, a do-nothing congress going back at least 15 years!

I totally agree crewbank. You have survivalists and you have people exploiting them. I blame the ones exploiting them most.

I pray for those cloudy days. And when they come, I come out of my cave.
