I am sure you will like it (assuming you are moving for the right reasons).
It is no heaven here either but overall, it is a decent place to live (all these transplants and illegals coming over couldn't be wrong!).

Good Luck to you and do not drink and drive or approach anyone at a gas station early in the morning and ask for $$ even if your sister really needed that operation...people don't like that over here!

Default bloodless Pheonix

I hate Pheonix too. There's practically nothing to do, except the occasional cool show that comes through town. Does anyone know of anything fun to do here? Like any cool haunted houses? Or creepy/fun places to go to here? I'm dying of boredoma nd it's too hot to go outsdie during the day. I did find this one cool show that's coming up if anyone is interested.

I don't know if you can get in at night without jumping a fence, but have you seen the Mesa City Cemetery? It's across the street from Hohokam Stadium, the Chicago Cubs spring training site on Center St., north of Brown Rd. Big place, lots of trees and cypress. Might be good place for a picnic.

There are some haunted places. Google on it and you'll find some both in Phoenix and places like Tombstone (right up your alley

Anyway, I do agree with you about there being nothing to do - or shall I say nothing to do within 20 miles of wherever I live. Seems like any of the jobs I apply for are on the other side of town. I've more or less resigned myself to just sucking it up and finding a job and that will be my fun.

There is a bunch of things to do in the Valley.

One good resource is the Phoenix New Times.

If you hate Phoenix so much - why don't you leave? I can't wait to get there! I visit every year (yes even in the worst of summer) and I adore it. The people are MUCH happier than the people in the cold, rainy, snowy, overcast Northeast.

For someone who loves the outdoors (I do) there is TONS of gorgeous hiking. Sedona alone is reason enough to move to AZ. I have a horse and there are tons of places to ride and I'll be able to ride almost 7 months out of the year!

The humidity in the Northeast (PA) is so disgusting that we stay inside for 3 months, then you have at least 3 months of cold, snow and ice.

Gee - can't imagine why I'd want to move to a place with sun 325 days a year. My sister-in-law has lived in Phoenix (Peoria) for 10 years and has never been robbed or experienced ANY crime, has never been bitten by a snake or scorpion. Plus she lives in a wonderful neighborhood with nice people whose kids play together every night in the cul-de-sac, they have pool parties and watch out for each other.

I just don't know where some of you are coming from.
I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree. I'm also originally from Northeast PA and moved to North Scottsdale in 2004.

Last summer, we moved to NE Florida to be near my husband's parents, but we just haven't found the feeling of home as we did in Arizona. The overall vibe is just so different there. There is SOOO much to do with our kids and we all miss it terribly.

So, we're packing as we speak and heading back HOME. I understand that not everyone likes it there, but I wouldn't live anywhere else. It is true that your blood thins and you can tolerate the heat more after the first year or so. In fact, the first year we were there, my husband went to the market in shorts in the winter. The clerk pointed him out as a newbie right away. And we do get a change of seasons. News flash: It gets cold in Arizona in the winter! Just not with the accompanying snow and ice. Cold enough that I can pull out my turtlenecks and sweaters and have a whole winter wardrobe. It's absolutely perfect.

I saw where another poster noted that if your optimum temperature is 75 degrees, then even at 110, we are only 35 degrees away. Conversely, where I am from in the northeast where we get below freezing temperatures you're way away from that mark. But even at the more regular 20-30 degrees for most of the winter, you're still 45-55 degrees away. At least in my version of an extreme in weather, I can wear tank tops and flip flops, not 2 layers of clothes plus a parka, boots, hats scarves, etc. And what's even greater is that if I get a yearning to see snow in the winter, all I have to do is drive a couple hours north and I'm there.

As far as the people go, that is one of the main reasons I am moving back. I have found everyone I've come in contact with to be open, warm and loving. But I do know this, you WILL find what you're looking for. If you have a belief that you'll find hateful people, they will abound. Just the way the Universe works. So since you attract people and experiences to you, put some thought into it and make it a good experience. We have and we are so grateful and excited to be going back HOME w/in the next 2 weeks!!
