That wasn't its original intention when the Fourtheenth Amendment was written, but a lot of migrants take advantage of that "loophole".

Also, illegals and their multitudes of children (who are uninsured) crowd hospital emergency rooms and urgent care centers. They know hospitals have to treat everybody regardless if the patients can pay or not. This makes wait times ridiculously long for sick people who have medical insurance, and are able to pay. Botton line is: illegals are a huge burden on our medical and welfare system.

Valley Native, I have a valid concern. By reading many of your posts around this forum, you have a problem with anybody who isn't just like you, who doesn't believe just like you, and doesn't do what you do or say what you say. And, you most likely believe that you are championing the cause of others just like yourself.

Surely, you've heard about or read the "Ugly American"? I must say that you are the one person on these boards I can think of which comes the closest to personifying a title of either the "Ugly Arizonan" or the "Ugly Phoenician". You should seriously consider re-evaluating your life - and, especially how you speak about others.

In case there is any doubt about the meaning of "Ugly American":

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ugly American is an epithet used to refer to perceptions of loud, arrogant, demeaning, thoughtless and ethnocentric behavior of American citizens mainly abroad, but also at home. Although the term is usually associated with or applied to travellers and tourists, it also applies to US corporate businesses in the international arena.

And...

The Encarta dictionary defines "Ugly American" as: stereotypical offensive American: a loud, boorish, nationalistic American, especially one traveling abroad, who is regarded as conforming to a stereotype that gives Americans a bad reputation. In contrast, Dictionary.com defines "the Ugly American" as: Pejorative term for Americans traveling or living abroad who remain ignorant of local culture and judge everything by American standards.

Who really cares what you hate or where you live? Phoenix is all but a joke anymore,so whats one or two more challenged tourists to laugh at. I like to keep myself amused while stuck behind that generic suv from Iowa going 10 miles an hour on the freeway who was told that I'ts one of the best places to look for cacti!!

Gee Zony, thanks for the kudos.

In all honesty, what you described supposedly about me really applies more to many others (particularly the newer arrivals) who come on here and constantly bellyache about Phoenix: the bad traffic, the idiotic drivers, the poor schools, etc., etc. Many of them have the "my way or the highway" attitude that Phoenix has to be just like where they came from, or everybody is an idiot if they don't drive exactly like them. Then there are those who move here and whine that they can't get a job because of a criminal record ... or move here and want to stop any & all plans for theme parks, highrises, etc. There have actually been posters like that on this forum. If they dislike it here so much, why did they even come here???

While I appreciate your concern, as well as your efforts to play Dr. Phil, the fact is that I don't see a need to re evaluate my life. Compared to many of the others whom I described in the above paragraph, my life is very fulfilled. All I'm doing is stating my opinions about different topics on this forum ... which is what a message board like this is intended for.

Thank you, Sharyl! My thoughts exactly. One of the best highways to find what you described is on the northbound Beeline Highway (SR 87) past Shea Blvd. Many lost souls can be found poking in the left lane trying to take pictures of every Saguaro, and looking for Ft. McDowell Casino at the same time.

Its cool, VN. My response was just a wake up call for you. Carry on and continue just as I'm sure you will. Other newer posters may not know any better, but you should. Your commentary on certain ethnic groups will henceforth be anticipated, such as the one about Native Americans (Snowbowl thread).

The guardians and keepers of CD have been entrusted with the actual care of this forum. They are the ones who keep daily watch and make sure that a good quality of posting continues. - Adios!

I don't like Phoenix, at all. What I find redeeming are the 24/7 drive-through Mexican joints. I even find it odd that someone would mention shutting this thread down, but it is typical of Phoenix and the people who reside here. Talk about selling a place. I've never seen so many people advocate to others they should move here, when it's already overcrowded. I just don't get it.

But the Phoenix haters who have said they have a right to express their opinions are 100% correct. Have at it. I hope the contributors to this thread can stay focused on the negative aspects of the city and surrounding communities and not cloud the discussion with rosy, optimistic, happy thoughts. I have no intentions of interjecting any defensive comments.

I hope the moderators will not delete this thread. There are so many negative comments throughout this forum that I seriously think it would be beneficial to have one thread for prospective residents to come to and find out all there is to dislike about this soulless, barren wasteland .

In keeping with the spirit and humor of this thread, and having been given the green light by an OP that is not currently known to be either dead or alive...

Phoenix itself is okay, but "Phoenicians" themselves are not very well received up in the north country of Arizona, or many other areas around Arizona, because they are perceived as rude and brash and self-centered - those being the good points.

One example of a "Phoenician" presenting themselves as expected to others: One fine day I happened to be standing in the checkout line at either Wal-Mart or Ross in Flagstaff, when the gal in front of me, dressed in total ASU regalia, began getting annoyed with the "slowness" of the cashier.

She kept expressing her annoyance by way of her stare, then by muttering things like, "I hate this cowtown", and "Can't wait to get back home". She then treated the cashier quite poorly, and marched off in a huff.

It just seems that people hailing from the Capital City could show a little more class when they parade themselves around the "backwater" areas of Arizona.

There, I've added my story to this fine thread.

But not everyone is like that, not at all. And I have lived in 4 major cities in America, and believe me, there are good and bad in all of them.

I'm a valley native. I think some people need a place to complain about the things they see in the valley. Bash away--the desert isn't for everyone, and some people who live here might be stuck here due to finances or whatnot. I'm thinking some of these complaints actually might have a solution to them. Phoenicians are pretty passionate people--valley hater or lover. What some people have said about the problems with homeless and our below-average school systems are very true, and should raise a serious concern with people who call this place home. Time to start working together to create solutions...I'm going to start...right...now...bye!

OK: I am wading into this fray:

If you are discussing the stereotypical 'N Scottsdale snob'-----------yes I do agree their kind gives the Phx area a bad rep.

Now: if we are talking about the older more down to earth enclaves in central Phx............as in E Indian School and so on---------I will fight anybody who says we are a bunch of (rich on paper) hooligans

As for the illegals: yes; I am extremely prejudiced against them-----------regardless of their actual race/ethnicity. I am simply prejudiced against criminals----------especially insolent ones.

Well, I am so glad you said "stereotypical." That shows me you don't really believe people in N. Scottsdale are snobs. It's just a stereotype, although stereotypes do have a tiny grain of truth to them. I personally like living in my N. Scottsdale hood, even though I don't like living in this town. If I have to be here, I guess I'd prefer to be here as opposed to other parts of the Valley. There is nothing wrong with liking nice, clean and wide roads, as opposed to that pit of an area that is Indian School, IMHO (although once past 40th street it isn't bad). I work down that way off the 51 and Indian School and REALLY don't like it. Oh well, at least I have a job, when all is said and done.

I'm waiting for things to turn around (if they ever do), so I can get outta dodge and to a place where I fit in, and this just ain't it.

On the subject of illegals, yeah, I know you dislike them. But most of them are just honest and hard working people who are looking for a better way of life.
