If that would have happened to you in Detroit, then you could have waited and buy your wheel back the next day.

Got 'em. All 5 lug nuts on each wheel require a grooved "key" to remove. A quick grab of my rims in a parking lot (hopefully with a security guard) would be hard to do. But knowing that some people successfully defeat the locks by hammering on a smaller sized socket, I'm thinking about taking it one extra step and getting these: Gorilla Automotive Products - Lug Nuts, Wheel Locks, Auto Security, Wheel Accessories Note the free-spinning protective sleeve. Those would be next to impossible to remove without the key.

Thanks. I checked out the Ahwahtukee.com site and there seemed to be quite a few break ins. I would prefer there and Chandler first and Gilbert third. Ive read that Gilbert is pretty conservative and I'm a moderate liberal so I'm not sure if I'd be completely comfy there.
Also, Ive read that youre a big proponent of Tempe and would consider that if it was safe and decent had good schools. Unfortunately, I havent found it there yet

I don't know what "quite a few break ins" means relative to the actual numbers or the time frame involved, or compared to other suburban areas, so I have no idea whether Ahwahtukee is that much different than other areas in that regard. I would consider it a safe area generally.
Gilbert is fairly conservative, but most people anywhere in the Valley keep to themselves. If you don't want to discuss politics and social issues with your close by neighbors, you don't have to; you can find outlets for your political/social interests in other nearby cities, and still take advantage of the nice neighborhoods in Gilbert.
You say you would consider Tempe "if it was safe and decent had good schools" and then say "you haven't found it there yet". I'm confused. What have you read that either leads you to believe Tempe is not safe or doesn't have good schools?

I guess the prosecutor would need to prove that you planted the explosives. Tough to prove, because who in his right mind would put explosives in his own car? But short of an explosion, I think the thief would have a pretty solid case if he couldn't fence the car for enough money because it wasn't in as good shape as it appeared. Probably this would fall under the bait-and-switch laws or something.

The fact that it is a college town with a young population leads me to believe that its not the family community we're looking for. I would love to be proven wrong, especially considering that my job will be in Tempe. From what Ive come across, S Tempe means Guadalupe, which is a solid, but lower class class neighborhood.

Your impression is largely incorrect. Is the area immediately around the university a younger demographic? Yes, except for the Daley Park neighborhood between Apache and Broadway off College. Both that area and the neighborhood just south of Broadway on College, which is also not a young (college age) demographic, are in the attendance zone for one of the best, if not the best, elementary school in the Tempe Elem. District. Many of the professors at ASU live in these areas.
Tempe has good schools (elementary (2) and high school districts), an excellent library, a great parks and rec department with activities for all ages, the best public transit system in the Valley, and lots of great cultural activities, many of them associated with the University, but not all.
I have no idea what you have "come across" regarding south Tempe meaning Guadalupe. I'd really like to know. You didn't read that here, I'll bet, or you misread or misunderstood something here (" Guadalupe" in reference to Guadalupe ROAD, is mostly not the same as Guadalupe the town, from which the road takes its name. Guadalupe Road does pass through Guadalupe, but also goes into Phoenix west of Guadalupe and Tempe, Mesa and Gilbert to the east). I live in south Tempe (have for all but two of the last 36 years), and Guadalupe is quite a distance, and in many ways a world away, from my neighborhood and every other neighborhood in south Tempe (or pretty much any other part of Tempe.)
Guadalupe is a very small, old town west of south Tempe. It has a completely different income level (low) and demographic (largely Hispanic) than south Tempe, which is comprised entirely of very nice middle class, upper middle class, and upper class (high six figure homes) neighborhoods, with one of the best elementary school districts in the state (Kyrene, which also extends into at least part of the Ahwatukee area).
Tempe is a great place for families. I'm sorry you've been led to believe otherwise.
If you are going to be working in Tempe, you should consider living here, too.
If you need more info, please send me a direct message and we can discuss it that way. This thread shouldn't get too far off topic for too long.

From all my late walks around my townhouse complex at night, I know exactly who has the biggest and priciest TV. If it were me, and I invested a lot of money to buy one of those 42 inch TV's, I'd wouldn't be stupid enough to leave my blinds open or half open, to broadcast the fact that I have one.
Perhaps these robbers had been casing the neighborhood at night to see who has the nicest TV to steal.
Just throwing in my two cents on this topic!

A lot of people give away what they bought by publicly disposing of the retail boxes, it's like saying "rob me" when you put a huge TV box outside your house.

Door Kickers
I know someone in Tolleson (newer neighborhood) whose door was kicked in and items stolen. Luckily the neighbor saw them and they got spooked. But still, they got away with enough. Not to mention the damage both physical and psychological. Well they had security doors put in after that. You can probably guess what happened next. Yep, 5 months later, someone came in through the bedroom window. Forced it open (cheap cookie cutter homes). This time the neighbor wasn't around. So they walked out with a lot more stuff. After this incident, they went with the roll-a-shields around all the windows. Ten grand later, we'll see how they do.
