If you are the center of the universe does that mean i get to come over and drink your beer?
Downtown is the center of the Phoenix universe, as far as business. All the professional IT training is in downtown, all the large banks are in downtown, the state government is in downtown...
My hopeful plans are to get a job that is in downtown or near the light rail so I can go for a drink with my wife and walk home, go to work without worrying about how much gas will be, go to ASU and not pay hundreds of dollars a semester for parking. I hope this will come to before the housing market skyrockets again.

How was that 30 mile drive each way last summer when gas was $4.00 + per gallon?

I love to see people whom live outside of town as if it were the heart of the country. ! NEWS FLASH! Some folks enjoy living away from you. (YOU) includes: boredom, disengagement, isolation, illegals, stuck-up rural dwellers and suburbanites. I am sure that when people speak of Downtown they are well aware that it is the state government and regional business center. So commenting on the distance from buckeye to downtown serves only one purpose, to make your self fell better because to some how made it and every one else lives in sprawl.

There. Fixed that for ya. Have a nice day

Another reason downtown is the center of the universe:
"Home values in the zip codes 85004 and 85007 in the Phoenix downtown area actually showed an increase of 12.8% and 0.2%, respectively." This was for 2009.
Wonder how many of the suburban home values have increased? Oh that's right, they have an average of losing at least 30% of their value with many losing more than half...I'm just saying! Ok, time to enjoy Friday night! Have fun everyone!!!

The average commute from home to work in the Phoenix metro area is 24 minutes!

I am sure the people who are making comments about "Buckeye/Goodyear/etc being no where remotely close to Phoenix" aren't advocating that Downtown Phoenix "is the place to be" they're just simply stating that in geographical terms those towns are a ways out from most ammenities that a big city has to offer (tempe and scottsdale included since they are adjacent). Of course you have those that prefer the remote lifestyle. nothing wrong with that, it all comes down to personal choice.

I live near Anthem and work from home. I go downtown for business a few times per month, but have never been there for anything other than business and wouldn't live there if it were free. My bank is in the U.S. Capitol in DC and they have an affiliate branch near Deer Valley. Never had to go downtown for banking either. $4 a gallon gas didn't bother me at all, since I ride a 45-50 mpg motorcycle everywhere and can park it in plenty of downtown garages for free.
