So I ate at the Coney Island downtown on Adams today...........
............because being from the East Coast, that is one thing you guys are surely missing out on here is a good coney dawg!
I was so severly dissapointed when i got my food!!!!
A boiled hot-dog with taco meat on top, and microwaved hotdog bun that was hard.
OMG I was steaming mad!!, but decided to just let it ride, ate the fries, and decided to express my opinion on C-D.com later.
Highly NOT RECCOMENDED!!!

check out Teds in tempe - by far my favorite hot dog place in the metro and based out of buffalo
there is another place on the west side - off indian school road and like 107th called Big Daddys Frankfurters .... hotdog isn't cooked over a flame like at Teds, but they serve sabretts, good deli mustard and the owner is an east coast transplant ....... pretty solid

Zony... it sounds like you are trying to imitate that one picture.. Yo dog we put yo dog on a yo yo so you can yo yo, you're yo yo dog, dog....
To the OP: I haven't really found any places worth comparing it to the original. Chinese in Arizona is horrible, Mexican is branded out, and Japanese is hipster central, all about image and not food.
I will go far to say PF Chang sucks in Phoenix compared to Sacramento. Always dirty, food tastes wrong, and never good service.

Gotta agree Ted's @ McClintock and Broadway has the best dogs I've ever eaten. Plus, the are always voted top dog in the Valley.

My condolences (sp!).
My husband loves hot dogs and the best we found was Teds....as the others mentioned. I think you will really like it. Got a good vibe there.
I know yer a NYC kinda dog lover, but the Chi dogs at Thunderbird and Scottsdale in the strip mall are pretty good.
Also, have you checked out Chowhound.com? There is a mighty thread there with not much info, other than a sausage link.
I say, buy 'em and grill em.
