Sun City Residents Input
We live in California and are looking for a 55+ community and would like some input from people living in Sun City. Do you like it, is it safe, are the hospitals and doctors good? Is there anything we need to know? thanks so much,.

Yes we like it. Probably the safest city in AZ. Doctors and hospitals are A-1. Very friendly laid back community that rolls up the sidewalks around 5 pm. Home values are good and holding fairly steady. Cost of living much cheaper than CA. Low ppty taxes. No city taxes. HOA community with relaxed rules. Several rec centers with many clubs and organizations to keep you busy.

It is a very nice city and the Del Webb communities are well maintained. We like the Sun City Grand homes and some of the older "retro" homes around the lake. Close to good shopping and medical.

When I was younger I used to laugh at Sun City with the green gravel "lawns". My MIL lives there now and I am old enough to live there as well . It now seems like a pretty decent place to retire to. It has everything you could want, the people are good to each other. Only downside is that it is no longer isolated but surrounded and even a part of Surprise so you get traffic and crime that was unheard of 30 years back.

My husband and I are in our mid fifties and bought a home in Corte Bella, in Sun City West. I don't know what your price range is, but take a look at all the different communities, Sun City, Sun City Grand, Sun City West and Corte Bella. We are not reitred yet, so we only get to spend a small amount of time down there (we live in Seattle), but we hate to leave when it's time to come home! We have met a ton of people from all over the country and all different ages and backgrounds. We love it.
Enjoy your search,
Cathy

The only issue I have with all of Sun City communities is limited number of groceries stores

We live in Sun City Festival Ranch. It's a brand new community. It's very nice but you have to like to live in the middle of nowhere. There is a Shell gas station but that's it. The closest grocery stores in Surprise are 15 minutes away. The hospital is at least 45 minutes away. Since this is a community in progress, you can buy a brand new home here. In the older Sun Cities you would have to buy a used home. Sun City Festival is in Buckeye.

What happened to the Fry's grocery store that was to be anchor for the shopping mall as you entered the community?
When we visited Sun City Festival 2 1/2 years ago the sales people showed us where the Fry's was to be and mentioned that it was to open very shortly at that time.
Sun City Festival is not age restricted as the other Sun Cities are. They have residential family areas.

I've lived in Sun City for 8 years. It was a shock to me how unfriendly my part of the development could be. I have done everything wrong since I moved here and regret the move. I'm from California and a free thinker and pro-choice on every possible position. When the housing market boes back up I will plan a move. Sun City is closer to Peoria and Glendale Arixona and shopping is fine. We have a Fry's market and a Safeway. I chose Safeway as their clerks are very friendly and helpful.
The people of Sun City are unlike any group I have never known. They are clickish to the extreme with few who read current events or care about politics. We have good medical facilities and some fabulous rec. centers with golf courses and swimming pools. I miss the sound of children and young adults. To be blunt, I moved into the retired bible belt. The houses are inexpensive and well built and the area is well kept.
I'm a mountain dweller and miss the quiet of my old area. I'm safer here as long as I don't go ape-**** crazy.
