One of them that moved there had planned on moving to Avondale and when I informed her of Surprise her and her Husband decided that they liked it in Surprise better. All of us are California born and raised. I also know 4 other families all from the Ventura County area that are living in Surprise. Something about that city we all seem to like.

The responses have been fantastic. You all have been so helpful and I am grateful. I am extremely excited about starting this new venture with my husband and children. Thanks so much to the wonderful residents of surprise. Speaking of Ventura. I recently sold my home in moorpark.. Really loved it there but just too expensive. I am looking for family friendly environment and simplicity. Surprise seems to be the place to settle. Thanks again all.

A few, but the affordable ones are not where I would want to live. Some rural properties in Surprise, but they are on acreage, some with dirt roads and I am not sure I would want to live there either. Not one person here in Vistancia parks a car on the front lawn. Amazing.

Thanks.
The only problem I have with HOAs is that the there are always special assessments, increases in dues, and the responsible homeowners who wind up paying for those who go into foreclosure or do not pay their fees. You are also at the mercy of "tptb."
There has been enough threads addressing the pro and con issues of HOAs.
Again, thanks for the info.

We are looking to rent a place once we get to surprise. We will get familiar with the city and later purchase a home. My husband does like HOA's but I am guessing he will have to get used to it.

Surprise Farms HOA increase
When did the rate go up? Is there a new HOA that took over the area, and do the fees go up frequently? I just purchased a home (we are from Western Canada) and love the Surprise area, as some of our friends have moved into Surprise as well.
Thx.

My case in point about HOAs.
We are retired and wish to make this our last move. I want to be able to afford the home if anything happens to my husband, and the same goes for him in case I go before him.
Thanks for sharing.

they probably do have increased costs with the rise of foreclosures
if you think something is questionable show up to a meeting, request a copy of their financials, inquire about the process they have in place for selecting service providers, etc
i know a lot of HOAs are in conflict with cities of who will upkeep what as cities are cutting back on their budgets ...... with an increase in foreclosures and vacant homes there are less dues coming in and quite often more work to be done
