Even though the article is from Dec. 2008 it does qualify the tower to remain at 34 stories. A CVS drug store has confirmed they are moving in to a space. They confirmed this in April 2009, I believe. The RED Company has decided to continue building the apartments over the retail space on the former Patriot's Square Park because the couldn't find another solution to the city's contract that held them to plans that would be acceptable to the city if plans are altered. Everything else seems in line from what RED managers have told me as well.

I believe "TOC EL" means Top of Curb Elevation"...maybe the 100' is the height from the bottom of the excavated parking garage?

What about the 8 story hotel portion? 227' for 8 stories? And the two level south podium retail...158'? Obviously you subtract 100' from all the figures on that block. And you subtract 102'9" from everything on Patriot's Square block. If nothing else, it's just common sense.
No you don't subtract any numbers! LOL, that wouldn't make engineering sense. Ok, the 227 ft level from the drawings is not just 8 floors the the entire 10...which include the 2 lower levels of retail space and a high "plaza level" ceiling height in the hotel/condo tower. The height of the retail space over patriots will include multi-level apartment residences.

Right, which means as I was saying and thinking that the tower 1 rending should also read: TOC EL 100ft, and TOP EL 368. The second tower already reads TOC EL of 100 and a TOP of 398. Poor schematic drawing as I said before.

Actually it would make sense if the building is measured from the foundation, which is at the bottom of the parking garage.

So, the 27 story tower is 468' from the bottom of the foundation...368' above grade. Right?

Same with every other building in the schematic.

Regardless, this is pointless, you're going to keep believing what you want to. We'll just have to wait and see what gets built...at which point I can say "I told you so"

It doesn't make sense, it is a poorly drawn schematic. The labeling is not consistent.

LOL, or (which is what WILL happen) I'll tell you, "see all that worrying for not!" LOL

I think having an AJ's and CVS with City Scape would be great. I remember there was either a Walgreen's, or Woolworth store that was at an old building on the northwest corner of Central and Washington, before it was torn down in the late 1980's to build what's now the twin towers of Renaissance Square.

It will be nice having the basics back downtown. The Walgreen's at Central and Washington closed in 1976 according to my mom, LOL, the building just sat there until it was torn down.

The movie The Gauntlet (Clint Eastwood and Sondra Locke) where the scenes from the beginning of it, show downtown Phoenix, at sunrise as it was in 1977, with the 4 major towers that were around back then, The Valley Bank Tower (Now Chase Tower) The Arizona Bank Tower (Now US Bank Tower) which had just opened in 1977, the First National Bank Tower (Now Wells Fargo Tower) and the newly completed Hyatt Regency Hotel.

It's also pretty interesting to see the last few minutes of the movie, as the bus rolls through downtown Phoenix on Monroe before it crashes into the steps of the Civic Plaza, or City Hall as it was portrayed in the movie.

The movie itself is pretty stupid, but it's still pretty good to watch some of those scenes around downtown Phoenix.

I was also on the corner of 2nd Ave and Monroe when they shot the scene that had a number of police officers on top of a building shooting at the bus, as it made a left turn on Monroe to go east towards the Civic Plaza. That was done on Memorial Day Sunday of 1977, being a 20-year-old college kid back then, wearing my black Bad Company concert t-shirt, I remember spending a couple of hours on Sunday afternoon watching them prepare and shoot that scene. I also remember they shot the final scenes where the bus was driven up the steps of the Civic Plaza the following Sunday.
