Wondering what commute has the least bumper-to-bumper traffic from Tempe to Downtown Phoenix in the morning rush hours.

The 60 and I-10 are always backed up and both have at least 5-6 lanes in each direction. Wondering if it might be better to hop on the 143 Sky Harbor exit and go to the 202. I never hear anything about 143 being backed up so bad.

I find the surface streets are the best. I don't know where in Tempe you are, but I cruise down Southern to Central. Much better then sitting in a parking lot on the freeway.

I've used the surface street method on Southern in the past, but not for a while. I'm sure it still works. I'll admit I usually just tough it out on the 101 to 202. I don't use the 60, got out of that habit a long time ago. I live so close to the 101, that it just seems to be the first choice. And, at some times of the "rush hours" that route is okay-- it can vary so much 10 minutes either way.

Detour Dan, the traffic report guy, does recommend that 10 to the 143 to the 202 method....

I'm sure you'll find other cars along that option (!), but it may be better than staying on 10....

surface streets could be less stressful...there's also the light rail from Tempe to downtown Phx!....gee, what a concept!

His recommendation in the afternoon is the 143 to the 10 to the 60. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. There is often a backup initially on the exit to the 143 inbound and to the 10 outbound, but that's dependent on the exact time of day and any number of other variables. As a freeway method, it's an OK option.

Isn't odd how Rubberneckers are curious about the most morbid things in life??????

Oh look, there's a smashed-up Nissan with blood stains on the seats and a body in a stretcher being taken in an Ambulance.

The typical accident isn't as dramatic as you claim it is. Most of the time its some person that does not know how to change a tire.

I've heard Detour Dan on 92.3 and 98.7 FM. Pretty cool guy!!!!!!

I think he's 1 of the last airborne traffic reporters around.
