Visiting Phoenix right now to relocate from Southern Cali.........
I searched and searched and searched to get an idea before I came here to look around..........for those who live in Southern Cali...........I would say its a mixture of pretty houses of Valencia and slums of Palm dale!!!! Beautiful house surrouned by run down farm type houses and open dirt land. Instead of green grass imagine brown dirt. And boy do they have malls.......malls.........malls.........malls. I wish they spent more time building amusement places for families instead. I am praying to stay in cali, but my hubby's darn company has given him no choice.....PRAY FOR ME!!!

Is the job transfer soon? Could he find another job in So Cal? Do you have any money set aside that you could live on until he finds another job?
You don't sound like you want to live there. If you are certain you won't like it there, I would figure something else out soon. Otherwise, I would try to make the best of it. You can always find good qualities in an area if you try to look for them. For example, you mention brown dirt but did you see a sunset yet? They can be quite remarkable. Yes, there are lots of malls and there isn't a lego land or sea world but there are things for the kids like the science center, the childrens museum, libaries, children's theatres, the zoo... Just take a deep breath and try to stay positive.

I live in Phoenix and happen to think it's very pretty here.
I'm praying that you stay in California, too.

Sure, I'll pray for you. Pray that a serious reality check is in your future. Maybe your husband will leave you behind and you end up as a bag lady in Compton for a few years. Phoenix will start looking pretty damn good. And Kalifornians wonder why the rest of the country cringes when they see CA plates drive into the neighborhood. Read the doormat at the border. It says, "GO AWAY!"
By the way, we have an amusement park. We call it Sandy Eggo.

I just got back from visiting the Phoenix area for the first time and if I didn't miss my dog so much, I would have cancelled the flight home and stayed. I've never been to California, but I was pretty dang impressed with what I saw during my 3 days in the Phoenix area. I can't wait to move down there in a couple of weeks!

HEY! Don't forget that I'm originally from So. Cal. aj, and I LOVE the Phoenix area, you cheeky git! Can't wait to get back home, and I currently live in one of the greenest countries in the world, LOL!
neelamzaidi, you sound very negative about a place that you don't even know. Maybe you just have some type of aversion to the desert for some reason? I spent most of my life in Southern Cali, yet once I move back to the States it will be back to the Phoenix area for me, where I only lived 9 years of my life. The desert is harsh, but it also has a beauty all its own. As sugarlips said, the sunsets are remarkable, truly breathtaking. So are the sunrises. What about the storms that can be seen over the Superstitions? Talk about a fantastic site! Then there is the added "down home" feel in many areas of Phoenix, very laid back, very western. The cultural offerings found in Arizona far surpass anything in So. Cal. I also find that Arizonans are more open and honest than many Californians, who all too often feel a need to put on a big ego and dress for the part.
Maybe you would be better off staying in the "Land of Disney" as I doubt that you have the ability to appreciate such natural wonders as Monument Valley, Oak Creek Canyon or the Superstitions.

Did you ever look yourself in the mirror?
Sorry my friend, you are just the same as people who don't like Phoenix.
After all, in democratic world we can have a different opinion, isn't? I like Phoenix from my first visit and I like "this wide spread" city.
You mentioned above "Phoenix will start looking pretty damn good.”
And I am asking you: what the heck is wrong with my favorite city now?
Sorry, I almost forgot: good Saturday!

Sorry Cyanna, but I have to defend the homeland. I love the state of California. I've spent a lot of time there. It's the CA inhabitants that look down their noses at us and the way we live in AZ that bug me.
I still have relatives in Sandy Eggo, Grandparents are buried in Santa Cruz and my first memories of this planet are, believe it or not, from COMPTON when it was just another middle class city.

1) Yep, every day
2) Hardly. There are plenty of bad things I could say about CA but I don't. I certainly wouldn't go to their forum and whine about possibly having to move there. Arizona is not California. Not my fault. Get over it.
3 Yea, everyone is entitled their opinion. But what is the point of coming to the Phoenix forum to tell other Californians how ugly Phoenix is. If you don't like Phoenix, don't move to Phoenix!
4) I don't know what your favorite city is. If it is Phoenix, I'm sorry you can't understand me, but I'm defending the place.

I had to move away and what I wouldn't do to go home. It's still one of the most beautiful metro areas in the country. There's so much to do & you can do it outside! (that's for those of you still freezing your patooties off elsewhere in May). It's not for the faint of heart nor anyone looking for Smallville. Need a pulse? Need everything at the tip of your fingers? Need a tan? You need Phoenix! Hah!
We're currently stuck in podunk and trying desperately to evacuate asap! If I see one more trailor or Walmart I'll I'll.......ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
