Im looking for a matress for a spare bedroom,i dont want the lowest quality but i want to spend as little as possible.

I have been to a few stores and most of the ones i liked were about 600+ out the door including a frame for a queen.

has anyone ever bought from craigslist? Ads for $350 for a Sealy double pillowtop set? The ads i see on craigstlist are for a place with 2 locations one in phoenix and the other in tempe. Trying to decide if its worth the drive to check them out.

Or ever called one of the numbers from the signed posted on the street corners?

I wouldn't buy from a sign posted on a street corner. You never know if those mattresses are really new. Sadly I can't recommend a good place to buy a cheap mattress.

I would buy from a clean family giving one away or selling one. One of my hobbies is buying new bed sets and then giving them away, barely used. The ones on the corners are probably the ones that they take to a factory and strip down to the springs and steam clean then remake, or worse, they just put a new cover on and there are many blood born pathogens lurking beneath the cover.

Look for a store that has a mix & match sale. This is where the store tries to clear out their inventory with tops & bottoms from different sets. Since you will most likely have sheets on the bed, you usually cannot tell they do not match.

There are also a few mattress outlets in the Phoenix area who will sell brand new excess or slightly damaged inventory as well. Personally, I would never buy a used mattress or one from Craigslist or on the side of the road, as you have no way to know the history and what might be inside (dust mites, bacteria, etc.).

Yeah I saw a special on TV about supposed "new matress" manufactures that just garbage picked thrown out mattresses off the street and than sewed new covers over the top of them and resold them bugs and all as "new"

That is where I got mine from about 2 years ago. They have some new ones and some that were re-faced, meaning they use springs from used/older mattresses which could save you another 15%-25%, compared to a completely new one.

The one on Bell and 40th street (close to 51 frwy) is more of an outlet and you might even strike a better bargain.
