Default Our Truck Just Got Stolen...

from the Springhill Suites parking lot in front of Arrowhead Towne Center Mall...in broad daylight...with the doors locked. It's a 2005 Dodge Ram 4x4 with leather seats, sunroof, and brand new tires. I am physically ill. My husband just called me because he is out there having started his new job in Glendale this past week with plans for the kids and I to join him in July. Guess what? Screw Phoenix. Nothing like this has ever happened to us here at home, and it isn't going to happen to us again there. Arrowhead is considered a "good" neighborhood, right? I'm not naive. I live near a city now, and I know that crime happens everywhere, but when it happens to you and in this big of a way...life is too short. This relocation deal is about to get undone.

So, does anyone have any experience with the Glendale police or been the victim of grand theft auto there? Any remote chance of getting the truck back? ARGHHHH!!!!!

my car was stolen from north phoenix 3 years ago, i got it back about 3 weeks later.. it was found abandoned at an am/pm with a dead battery. the ignition had been stripped of course and the total cost to replace the ignition, locks, and battery was about $1000.

Sorry to hear that, sucks! Arrowhead is a good area and a target area for thefts just like Scottsdale, or Westwood (in L.A.), even Beverly Hills because who wants to steal an '89 Honda in South Phoenix' lower income hood? It happens everywhere. I had my car stolen in Omaha two years ago, LOL! Never got it back. My mother had her car stolen last year in Seattle but thanks to OnStar the thief was caught about 2 hours later. Good luck, hope you have a great insurance rep.

Damn shame, Davidafan!

Unfortunately, thefts and break-ins seem to be happening everywhere to everyone nowadays.

Arizona is not perfect, however, I feel better off here than I did prior to my relocation from California about 12 years ago. Don't let this one "hurdle" destroy a dream and/or opportunity.

Good Luck,

Curt

The Glendale police told my husband that his truck is probably halfway to Mexico by now. Great. Actually, though, I think it might just be better to never see it again, as opposed to having it returned in damaged condition. The policeman also told him that Arrowhead is just about the safest neighborhood that we could find in the Valley to live in, but that Arrowhead Mall is a hotbed of car theft. Again, great. My husband has to get a rental car in the meantime, according to our insurance agent. Also, did you know that Dodge Ram pickup trucks are, like, THE hottest item to steal in Phoenix, according to the policeman? Sigh...

Thanks to all of you for your kind words. This whole thing still makes me want to reconsider before we take the leap totally, but yet I know that car theft is a random crime that can happen anywhere. It's just never happened to us. I hope they drive it into the desert and it breaks down and they die of heatstroke. LOL, just kidding...sort of...

Oh yes, trucks and SUV's like the Ram ARE the item to steal because they can cut through desert terrain on the way to and from Mexico when trying to avoid the main roads and police/border patrol. Imagine trying to trek through desert terrain with a Honda Accord or Sporty and low profile BMW! LOL Again, sorry for the huge inconvenience and glad no one was hurt and I'm with you as well; hope the truck breaks down and the villain is caught, or "kinda" dies, LOL!

I would NOT be kidding if I were you, Davidafan.

In fact, heatstroke AFTER being attacked by Rattlesnakes and/or other critters.

A friend of mine had his car stolen from his garage in Scottsdale in the middle of the night while the family slept. Apparently the thieves use a remote that generates random signals while they drive watching for a garage doors to open. It's scary to think about a theft while you're sleeping at home. Sounds like a good argument for owning a shotgun or assault rifle with a thirty round clip. What are the laws in Az regarding blasting an intruder?

Let's please not hijack this thread, but you cannot use deadly force in AZ solely to protect property. You have to move to Texas for that... (there's a whole other thread on this subject)

To the OP --Auto theft from malls/hotel parking lots is likely greater anywhere than theft from home driveways/carports/garages. Add to that a popular model, and the potential goes up. I'm really sorry this happened to you, but take a breath before you start undoing everything. Antitheft devices are available... if the opportunity here is a good one, don't throw it all away for this.
