I've spent a lot of time in metro phoenix. Bottom line - If you like chain restaurants, endless sprawl, destruction of the desert environment, oppressive heat, combined with overpriced homes and horrible schools you will love metro phoenix! What crap hole.

I moved here from Michigan over a year ago (grew up around Flint and worked in Detroit) and I love it in metro Phoenix. I've spent a lot of time in every decent-sized city in the midwest and east coast like New York, Brooklyn, Boston, Providence, Chicago, Cleveland, etc. Phoenix (and the surrounding area) is one of the safest and cleanest cities I have been in. I'm even talking DOWNTOWN Phoenix (around the stadiums, Grand Ave, etc). I don't feel unsafe at all here. The weather is fine after your first summer. I got sick and tired of snow in Detroit. The people here are much nicer. I can go on and on with this.

Having said that, affordable housing is tough to find but there are a lot of stable high-tech jobs here. That is why I moved.

I'm sure if I lived here for 10 years and had only been out east a couple times in my life, things would seem nicer there. The grass is always greener on the other side.

All I know is everytime I land at Sky Harbor, this place feels like home.

I was watching the phoenix team in the little league world series on espn, and all I could think of was those poor kids growing up in such a dreadful, sinister place.

oooooooooooohhhhhh the despair, its so dreadful, oh woe is me, im in hell........my life is in everlasting sorrow oooooooooooooohhhhhhhh.......

Im sure those kids parents were frantically planning to move out right after the game along with the 4 million other grief-stricken families that inhabit this unbelievably terrible state, not to mention the thousands that move here every day, oh the humanity.....

sheesh.....

You just don't get it do you azrider. For every two people that moves here one leaves. Just because a region is growing does not make it special - the masses are not always right. Also, I love Arizona just not Phoenix. Arizona is a beautiful state, and I love spending time there just not Phoenix. Try not to take it to personally, oh, and your attempt at sarcasm was quite pathetic. Have a great day!

See what some fail to realize is that there are some peple that dont work in the IT field or medical and are not lawyers and such, they dont make six figures a year, sometimes they are in construction and small rural areas you dont make enough money to live on, we are in NC right now and we are moving to AZ to be able to feed our kids and give them a decent childhood. Would love to move to NY or Mass or Colorado, but sorry no decent construction managers positions that pay a decent wage and allow you to live with out being at the poverty level. Sometimes it isnt all about the pretty.

I just think people need to focus on the good andtry to change the bad, every city or town in the US has issue, some more than others, I just get tired of people saying someplace is great because it is pretty and what not, like the mass exodis to NC, been here, over rated, but you cant tell people that, they will believe the masses flocking there.
