Default Anyone use " Pods " to move? Advice?

Hi! Has anyone here used Pods to move? These seem to be plastic

like cubes that a company delivers to your house and you load up

with your furniture and stuff, then they pick it up and put it on

a truck and deliver it for you. I was quoted for one rooms worth

which I take to be one pod, from Cleveland to Phoenix for about 1200

dollars. That included taxes, gas, and everything.

I have no big furniture to move. All my " stuff ", mostly clothes, books,

etc...is packed in plastic tote boxes. About 50 or so of them!

These would stack up pefectly in the PODS! Not sure if ONE pod will be

enough, may need 2. But then, I don't have to pay for gas, like if I

rented a uhaul truck and have the hassle of hauling my car behind it

all the way cross country, instead I can just take my time and cruise

in the comfort of my car while the company delivers my stuff in the PODS.

Anyone have experience with this? Any advice or suggestions?

THANKS!

Bob, still in Cleveland...but the countdown has begun...

I used PODS before, well actually my boyfriend did when he was moving from Chicago. They worked well. Nothing broken since he took his time packing his belongings carefully. They are pretty solid and hard to break into. I for one would have hired a moving company but he didn't want to so I had to help him move his heavy @ss furniture! LOL, I usually save my lifting for the gym! He called me spoiled, so I proved him wrong. Back on topic; we had a great experience and we took our time driving back to Phoenix...unfortunately, I wanted to get on a plane by the time we got to St. Louis. You can imagine how I felt through Oklahoma!!! He made up for it though!

We used it once before and it worked out great! We'll be using it again now that we are moving to Denver. I would think 50 totes would fit in 1 container..

great to hear. This is how me and my wife will be moving next. Too many items of hers were broken in the last move.

We used ABF for that - exactly like the company PODS....ABF has been in business for longer though and do offer more moving options.
At any rate, 1 cube should be enough for you - we moved the equivalent of a 1 bedroom apartment in that. They key to not have anything broken by the time they deliver is to pack it with very little to no space between objects...and pack it to the gills so nothing slides and moves around.
We had it moved from Florida to Maryland and was charged $1000. They're great...best way to go!

I used Pods. It was professionally packed, but I had more damage than I have ever had on previous long distance moves. Also, my stuff arrived a couple of days late, so I was sleeping on the floor of my apartment a little longer than I planned.

I would do it again, though. The trip to my new home was less stressful, not having to worry so much about traffic.

I'm in the midst of using PODS for our move from Dallas to Phoenix.

We moved out of a four bedroom 2000 sq ft house into two PODS (8x8x16). They were packed full. Anything that could be broken down or disassembled was which saved a lot of room.

We hired local professional movers (Olde World Movers) located in the DFW area. If anyone from the DFW area reads this message, I can't recommend them high enough. I used them four times and they did great each time.

We had the two PODS dropped off in our driveway. One of our trees had a low branch hanging over the drive way that had to be trimmed. Podzilla is pretty cool!

Currently all of our possessions are in storage until we move into our house in Mid July. What really sold us on the PODS is the climate controlled storage that is available. We weren't sure how quickly we'd find a house once we moved out here, so knowing we didn't have to unload a couple trucks into storage, then reload a couple of trucks once we found a house was a deciding factor for us.

I believe it will cost us around $3400 for two PODS dropped off in DFW, shipped to Phoenix and stored in their North Phoenix warehouse for two months.

We used an ABF container pod to move from Mass. to Arizona and it worked out pretty well. We hired teams at both ends for the loading and unloading because of lots of heavy boxes plus a 400 lb exercise machine.

It wasn't cheaper than a conventional moving company, but it was nice knowing that our stuff wouldn't be transferred to another truck or otherwise messed with, as happens with those van lines. I would definitely do it again.

Can I ask you ,approximately, what you paid for the ABF containers from Mass to Ariz? We will be moving back to CA from Downstate NY and the last move was an expensive disaster. ABF has been recommended on a moving website and they do seem to be overall cheaper than the pods.Thanks.
