Default How is the Area Around Grand Canyon University?

Our son's girlfriend will be attending GCU this fall and living and, hopefully, working on campus. We will be living in Arrowhead Ranch. Since GCU is in the 3300 block of Camelback, and that area appears to be pretty close to Maryvale, is it safe for her to be driving to and from campus at night, as in driving home from our house at, say, 10 PM? GCU itself is very well patrolled, both by their own security as well as the Phoenix police, they lock the campus gates at 6 PM, and all of the students that we have talked to there said that they have never felt unsafe on campus. I am just concerned about the area around the campus.

Thanks!

It's not great. On the other hand, Camelback Road and 35th Avenue are both wide six-lane boulevards with fast-moving traffic. It's not as if she's likely to be spending a lot of time stuck in marginal areas. I'd be more concerned if she were waiting for a bus late at night or walking off campus after hours.

agreed - not a great area, but she'll be fine traveling it ...... if she wanted to minimize time amount of time cutting through the neighborhood she could cut over to I-17 and run it around to the 101 ...... a little bit of going east to go west, but there are options

GCU should have a fun basketball team this year
