However, my 14 and 16 year old granddaughter and grandson will do any type of work for me because we're good friends and I've done a lot of activities with them all of their life.
When they're available I use them to do some work on my properties, to give them work experience, some extra money, and to spend time together. They're fun to be around, and they're only willing to do that work because we enjoy each others company.
But there is no way that my grandson would do gardening work as a job. He won't work at the McDonald type fast food places either. The job has to be "cool". For the summer he applied to Home Depot and an auto supply store because that was "cool". He didn't get either one.
The reason the Hispanics are doing this manual labor type of work is because they don't mind working hard to earn money, and they don't have the education to get white collar type jobs. The sharp ones move on to starting their own company.
There are many Hispanics out there who are here legally, so don't fall into the trap of thinking that every Hispanic is illegal just because they don't speak fluent English.
Val Vista Lakes, in the past, hired their in-house landscape crew without checking for legality. Last year, in compliance with the new law, they fired those who were illegal. In the hiring process the only applicants were Hispanics. Not all of them speak good English.
My Hispanic father in law came to this country legally many years ago, and he never learned to speak good English. He and I could only communicate with a few words, and unfortunately he died within a year of our marriage, so I never got to spend a lot of time with him.
He worked at the Ford plant for many years but lived in a predominately Hispanic area and only hung out with Hispanic friends and they all spoke in Spanish.
The same thing happens today. I use a Hispanic lady (who has a green card) to do some cleaning of my properties, and she doesn't speak English. Her 10 year old daughter and her boy friend translate for her, so it allows her to be lazy as far as learning the language.

So since it's your grandchildren, it's alright, but everyone else kids are lazy? That's great logic.
Does bold help you read better?

Well, I agree with you on one thing..." teenagers of today don't want to do manual labor because it's beneath them.
However, my grandfather came from Mexico and the first thing out of his mouth to the family of 7 Uncles and my mother was to make sure that all of the kids spoke English, so this way we did not have to do day labor that he did growing up to feed the family.
However, times have changed with 9-11 and borders are not secure. For about $50.00 on the black market, you can buy all of the paper work you would need to stay in this country illegally.
Oh, the paper work really looks perfect. However, if the employer actually check on the paper work....aka the Social Security Numbers, the employer would find out that the same number is being used by 1 million illegals.
But the employer just looks the other way because they need the so called help. I love it when I hear the employer saying..."we have had this position in the newspaper for 2 years and NO one will answer the ad.
Yeah, because you only have an hourly wage that only an illegal would want. I can not feed my family and pay for my house on that wage. However, if I got 10 or 20 other families to live with me to help pay my rent and I lived on beans and tortillas, then it will work for me.
Howver, my wife doesn't want to share the house with another family. So I am stuck having to get a job that will actually work.
You see, it's easy for the Illegal to live here when they are all sharing the cost of rent at the same house. Oh I know, it's ok, they are only here to work. Yeah, then why is Phoenix the kidnap capital of the SW?
Well, it only comes down to one thing. It time to elect a politician that will care about the voters with his state. Yes, I am taking to you McCain!
Oh, I know you go gallivanting around the country every elcetion time, telling the whole country that you don't bring pork home to the state and then smile about it. Then you brag that you still get paid for doing nothing. Amazing! Maybe is time to get someone who will actually care about the voters and the state.

Most don't bother with taxes either, that's an extra $100+ a week easily. If I didn't have to pay taxes, I could be renting a much larger house/condo, or even finance another vehicle!

I think you misunderstood what I said.
What I said was that my grandkids will do any kind or work for me because we're friends and enjoy being together.
However, they will not do that for anyone else.
They are the same as every other teenager in that they will not go out and get a job with a gardener, or cut someone else's yard; or clean dirty toilets in a rehab house. They only do that for me because we enjoy being together and we make it fun.
I didn't say that everyone else's kids were lazy, and didn't intend to imply that either.
Here is what I said:

I don't think teenagers are lazy. They have a tremendous amount of energy and most will work very hard at what interests them. However, I believe they think that manual labor is beneath them and they don't want to do it.
I enjoy doing work with my grandkids because they're fun to be around. Also, I know that they are learning something that they would not have the opportunity to learn otherwise, because they would never volunteer to do the type of work that I ask them to do.
There are times when instead of using a contractor, I'll do some of the work so they can go help me. On Thursday we're going to clean a very dirty toilet, replace a missing toilet, vanity, sink, mirror, etc. The people took everything out of this toilet.
We'll also clean blinds, windows, window frames, mirrors, sinks, etc to make the home cue tip clean. They will be learning a lot about how to do things in a home that will be valuable to them later in life.
We have a close relationship with them and take them to a lot of places. On Saturday we took our granddaughter to see the circus; Zing, Zang, Zoom (which was good by the way). We were fortunate to have a front row seat and one of the clowns began to flirt with her. She was both embarrassed and of course flattered, so it made for a memorable evening.
We try to make the work as much fun (and educational) as when we go to events.
