In Phoenix and Bored? Visit Superstition Mtn!
This is a post for all the Phoenix newbies looking for something to do for an afternoon with the family. Visit Superstition Mountain! Lost Dutchman State Park (at the base of the Superstitions) and Goldfield Ghost Town are about a half hour away and are loads of fun.
This is a cheap afternoon as well. Only three bucks per car to visit Lost Dutchman State Park in the shadow of the magnificent Superstition Mtn., and a visit to Goldfield Ghost Town (just down the street) is free unless you want to take a train ride, mine tour, or purchase souvenirs and food. Take a picnic lunch (Lost Dutchman State Park has picnic tables) and make it a low-cost day out!
I visited it for the first time this week and came away impressed. I look forward to exploring the area more fully with my camera. If winter rains are generous, this area has spectacular spring wildflower displays. I look forward to really exploring this area come winter!
Photo above shows a shop in Goldfield Ghost Town.

A charming old Ford truck in Goldfield Ghost Town. Love the rounded fenders and bullet grille!

You found my kid brother !!!
Yea, all the local pickup trucks are were a bit jealous when Jeb was picked for a role in "Cars" the movie. There are plenty of rusted-out derelict pick-up trucks that can really act . . . even done Shakespeare and all . . . but Jeb was the only one in the family that still had all his teeth . . . I guess that's all that matters in Hollywood.
Anyway, Jeb thought that there would be more roles coming his way after the success of "Cars." He wanted leading man roles . . . maybe even a romantic comedy with Jennifer Aniston . . . but nobody ever called. Jeb went into a real depression. He had been living real big in Hollywood, but as any pickup truck knows, you can't keep sipping on gin 'n' Quaker State night after night. You're gonna crash, and crash he did.
Finally, Jeb lost his million dollar garage and was forced to live in a South Hollywood junk yard. He spends his days cruising the strip, begging for oil changes. He's gone from sipping Castrol Synthetic with the high rollers to drinking 3-In-One Oil out of greasy paper bags in back alleys . . . Yep, Kinda fell on hard times . . . poor Jeb . . .

How do you know they stole it? Maybe the little bastard just had enough of your whining and left willingly?

I am selling my house - it is practically right across the street from the Ghost Town, up by Mining Camp Restaurant. Yes, it is quite beautiful and quiet here and I hate to leave it, but I have to. It was quite hot today, though! Probably not a good day for a picnic. It is raining now. YEAH!
