Music scene: blues/jazz in the area?
I am an IT professional who is also a blues and jazz drummer who will be moving to the area shortly (Maricopa, AZ). Is there an active scene? Any links to check out?
Thanks in advance.

Tons of stuff. . . put up an reqest to meet musicians on local Craigslist, pick up a copy of the New Times. . . so far as "homegrown music" is concerned, Phoenix is really rather incredible. My experience is with the "folk music" "acoustic music" crowd, and they are the best people (and some of them are the best musicians) I have ever met in my life. . . I believe you will find a similar experience with the jazz / blues crowd. . . .

It only comes around once per year, but the Glendale Jazz & Blues Festival is awesome.

There are a lot of good musicians here; and most of 'em ARE the nicest folks you'll meet. I don't know if it's been posted yet, but out here in NC Phoenix there's a chain restaurant called "Pappadeaux". Blues on the patio at night (Fridays & Saturdays for sure), and a really cool crowd. Good music too, of course. The musicians are very approachable and will sit down with you. Luther Jackson (Michael's uncle) sat with us for a while; we had a grand time.
Also met Stephen King and his wife Tabitha there; our table was right next to theirs.
Food there is kinda pricey, but it's authentic and good (cajun).
Most importantly, the beer is cold and wet.....

When did it reopen? A quick internet search yielded no information for me.
