What the heck, Scottsdale? No fireworks! (Phoenix, Tempe: appointed, hotel, house)

Hi,

It's my first 4th of July here and there seem to be fireworks everywhere but Scottsdale! (At least that's what I read several places, including the Internet)

What's that about?

Does every suburb have to have its own fireworks show? Scottsdale is near the two large shows in Phoenix and Tempe, and having a few centrally located fireworks megashows is one small contribution toward bringing the whole metro area together. In so many respects, Scottsdale tries to follow its own path rather than acknowledging its role in the larger metro area. I'm glad to see it not doing so for a change.

I think you'll be surprised that you may find other smaller firework shows around that you were not aware of. Last year, we had two within a couple of miles of our house that we had NO idea were happening until we went outside or drove around. Basically, there's more than the big shows around town.

If you live in south Scottsdale, go check out the fireworks at Tempe Town Lake. If you live in north Scottsdale, go check out the fireworks at Fort McDowell Casino. They put on a great fireworks display too.

Excellent suggestions. Sadly, this year two members of our family were ill, so we elected to stay at home, and watch them on TV in the air conditioning. It still just isn't anywhere near the same. Even though we live in what most people would consider "north" Scottsdale, we prefer the show around the Lake. Last year they did a terrific job!

Are there really firework displays in Phoenix on 4th of July Independence day? I read somewhere in the newspapers that they may not be firework displays.. Also, how's the job market in phoenix now?? Is it very bad and hard to find jobs now or what is it like?? I'll like to know.

I had a fairly good view of some fireworks show right out my balcony. I am at Desert Club (Princess or Mayo and Scottsdale area). I have one of the south facing units in the back of the complex. It was southeast from where I was, so I dont think that was Phoenix or Tempe. It was definitely a large "organized" show rather than a small private one. My niece said the Hyatt was doing a show, but I wouldnt expect a hotel to put on a city-size show and this was definitely a large expensive show. Could it have been the casino show I was seeing-that would have been coming from the right direction? But the casino is a good 15-20 miles from me I think. And the only ones I didnt see were a few of the really low ones. That's a heck of a view if that was the show I was seeing. Now I know for next year.

I just moved here from of course, the midwest. And I live in northern scottsdale and was very disappointed also. I watched from my deck due to the large amount of traffic and words of disappointing events. I see every town has there once show, so why wouln't scottsdale, this is the city with the money. I could see 7 shows from my place and I could only here the booms from one. But they were pathetic for a town this size. My hometown as a kid of 5000 population competes with Phoenix fireworks.

Either, all cities should join as one to have a real show.
Or because of the traffic, EVERY city should have their own show, including Scottsdale so we don't flood one highway at the same time.

Phoenix celebrated Mexico's May 5th (Cinco de Mayo) more than American's Independance. It's sad and I miss a real celebration. Hope everyone still has a happy 4th.
