Bad smell in evening in Goodyear neighborhood (Drugs or something else?)
We have lived in our home for a year (new build) and about a month ago we started getting a very odd and powerful smell in the backyard in the evenings. A couple of times we have had to get out of the pool and go in the house due to the smell. I thought it was a neighbor smoking weed and even called the Police once who came out when the smell was dissipating and said he didn't think it was drugs because it was in too large of area.
It rolls in almost every evening around 8:00pm and smells like smoke. My wife an I have never tried MJ and have only smelled it a couple times but both think it smells like what we remember MJ smelling like. We can go out in front of the house and walk a house or two down the street and still smell it.
We live south of the I-10 in Goodyear (Canyon Trails area).
Would MJ stink up the whole neighborhood if it was a neighbor in their backyard?
Anyone else in this area experience this smell in the evening? Wondering if it's an agricultural smell from burning fields or something? Would love any insight as to what this smell could be.
Thank you.

In Sacramento this is a heavy practice with the rice farmers over by highway 80 near davis. The smell was pretty bad. It wouldn't surprise me if the farmers here did the same thing.
Here is a google satellite image of your surrounding area. Notice all those green fields? Those are typically farm land.

I was just driving down the 303 from surprise to take the 10 to goto the airport and right around the 303 and 10 it smelled very bad like manure.
I even saw one of the fields with rows and rows or what looked like manure just piled up.
Maybe it got windy and blew the smell towards you.
Edit: looks like the smell you were smelling was not manure but somethnig burning

I remember in Surprise that when the produce that went unpicked in the farm fields began to spoil, it gave off a rancid smell. One field in particular was across the street from the "Ashton Ranch" neighborhood, so we'd call it "Acid Ranch" instead.
But if you think you smell pot, that may be something else.

Sometimes the smell of burning leaves is similar to that of MJ. I'd be more worried if it were a sharp chemical type smell.

I don't believe the smell of pot would cause such a stench as to force you indoors. I just saw Clapton and Winwood and the entire arena was filled with pot smoke. I even had some passed to me. I didn't partake but smoked a ton of weed in the seventies and the smell isn't what I would describe as repulsive. Maybe someone is cooking up some meth. I'm not familiar with that aroma but I believe it isn't pleasent.

LOL marijuana wouldn't stink up an entire neighborhood. Unless you have hundreds of people smoking it in close proximity. And if that was happening, I'm sure you'd notice all the commotion. w1ng brought up a good point that it could definitely be the burning of fields.

"marijuana wouldn't stink up an entire neighborhood."
That's a good point. Maybe two of his neighbor's are smoking it at 8 PM every evening and they're spread apart just far enough to make it seem like the whole neighborhood smells. Likely, it's something else.

Note to self:
Drive to Goodyear for free contact buzz.....
A lot of farmers will collect the brush, dead fall, etc. and do the controlled burn thing. We tend to get a lot of wild fires this time of year. This activty helps control that.

Thanks for all the input, was hoping to find someone that lives in the area that smells it also which might know what it is.
I understand I live in a rural area, however, I can't imagine brush burning is allowed this close to a major metropolitan area.
