Default Moving to Scottsdale next week

After living in southern California for most of my life I am in need of a change and having heard great things about Scottsdale and the nightlife I decided to make the leap. So I have been researching all I could on the internet and found that I want to move near the Fashion square. To give you an idea of me I am a 25 year old professional but I like to party and I by no means look professional(tattoo's ect). I make enough that I can afford an upscale place but I do not want to be around the snobby a-holes those places seem to attract, so I am sort of looking for a place that has a nice mix of people my age and not a total dump. I don't know if that is asking to much though I suppose I could live with one or the other untill I get to know the place better.

So far I have come up with the 2 that seem to be one of each of what I want, upscale: the 3rd Ave condos right next to Fashion square, my age/party: San Marin apts also right next to Fashion square.
Any info on these places or suggestions would be greatly appriciated!

Thanks!
Dustin

I think you may be talking about the 3rd Ave Lofts around 7300 E 3rd Ave.....great location right in downtown Scotts....sorta crowded area (urban), but great for walking everywhere....I looked at a couple of the units that were in foreclosure there several months ago....the building is nice from the outside, but sorta cheesy on the inside - looking a little 1990s-ish (they were built about ten years ago)...check the comps if you buy there because several were sold for fairly cheap in the last year or so....the units are accessed off routine interior hallways....

haven't heard of the San Marin place....

I have a place near Fashion Square and it's a great location....very convenient....wide variety of home prices: $60K to $5M within two blocks of the mall....

strongly advise you rent or stay in a low summer-rate hotel for several weeks to get a feel for the area....don't buy until you feel comfortable with a place....check very recent comps!....ask the locals for the reps of areas....

and, since you "party", you may know this website already:

Read this link, especially if you have never been to Scottsdale. I lived in Phoenix many years which was ok, but Scottsdale really is Snobsdale.

After living in Orlando, Scottsdale/Phoenix looked dead, when we were out there, three years ago. Where's the fun?!

Old Town is fun,my favorite part of Snobsdale. Pricey as hell, though.

psycik,

Thanks for the info on the 3rd Avenue Lofts. I now know to look the other way. I want to live in an urban loft, but not with neighbors who are adult children of wealthy people and who have annoyingly loud "music" past 10pm nightly. 30-somethings and older only! I'm a traveling consultant and lofts appeal to me because of no yardwork, low maintenance, and are pretty much turn-key with convenient transportation to large regional airports. Before I buy a loft, I will be sure to meet the future neighbors near my loft unit on my floor, the neighbors below, and the neighbors above. If I cannot meet them, I would not buy. I want to be sure they are like me - focused on a professional career and have to be working at 8:00 a.m. every weekday morning and sober. Most of them would probably work weekdays out of state anyway, like me.

As for the area around Fashion Square, I used to live in Sunscape Apartments on Hayden near Osborne before they became "compartments." Full of ASU students, but was very close to where I worked. My girlfriend and I preferred to go to North Scottsdale for fun, since we were in our late 30s and early 40s. We felt out of place at the local bars, so you chose the right area.

I love it! Scottsdale young men described as $30k millionaires! BMW had to move out because it ran out of $30k millionaires leasing $399/month Beamers! And perfect description of their attire! Long sleeved shirts with vertical stripes tucked out, loose jeans. LOL. Seems like a uniform worn by what I call a "thousandupulate." Kind of like Fedora hats are becoming so 2008, aren't they?

On the opposite side of the coin, my engineering friends (who I know earn over $250k per year) and I chatted with a middle aged version of that at Sapporo in N. Scottsdale once. He claimed he had businesses overseas and just got back from Africa. Claimed he made $5,000,000 the previous year. Huge beer belly, middle aged. I'm sure he impressed the women there who flock there to see who is driving the next Italian sports car.

Consider the source. The site owner claims to be a sales expert, New York Times best selling author, and has lived in Newport Beach for the past few years. Who, in that situation, would bother to maintain a website blasting a place where he no longer lives?

I think most shrinks would label that an obsessive/compulsive behavior disorder... similar to stalkers who can't "let go."

The fact is he's not a NY Times best seller. He peddles "sales expertise" but it's aimed at the get rich quick/MLM crowd - the very 30K millionaires he blasts in his blogs. I've been all over and there are just as many sleazy plastic types he claims to dislike in Newport, LA, Vegas, New York, Miami, etc. as there are in AZ. In fact, I'd rather talk to a clueless bonehead trying to look cool than this kind of bonehead.

That's the ultimate irony... he's the exact person he claims to hate. He's better than Phoenix/Scottsdale but for a limited time only you can buy his marketing books or make money selling weight loss programs. Classic!

I do not know much about that site. I just typed in "scottsdale arizona sucks" in the search engine and it came up. You are right about there being other area's that are similar. Up in Las Vegas, we have Summerlin which is just like Scottsdale.
