I love Airzona and am considering moving there shortly. Yet, I'm trying to get an idea of what type of maintenance regarding pests I'll run into compared to New England where I live. So, I know what to expect when I get there and approx. costs for pest control etc. I've heard of many things like scorpians, killer bees, roof rats, cockroaches and flying ones, coyotes, wild pigs, mic I'm wondering are mice common, for example, or any of the other common or just perhaps a few people that occassionally had these things. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks very much

I haven't bought any pest killers in YEARS. I will run into an occasional small ant trying to eat my cat's food, but that's about it. And trust me, I do not have the cleanest house on the block! The only things I see in my yard are quail, pigeons, grackle (a black bird), and bunnies. I don't think you have much to worry about, really.

Hi Sunshine,
I have lived in the Phoenix valley for a total of three years. For the most part, I have not had a problem with pests. Roaches are the worst, in my opinion. I had an apartment when I first moved here and had a few roaches. For someone not used to them, they were pretty disgusting. Since then I have had two homes in the valley and haven't had a problem. I pay a service $65 every-other month to come and spray. I have never seen a scorpion in my home or on my property. I did see one at a friends apartment on one occassion. That is the only one I have seen in three years. I have never had a problem with rats, mice, coyotes, or any other wild animal. From what I have heard, Scottsdale and Ahwatukee seem to have the majority of bug problems. Anyway, I don't think there is much reason for concern; Get a regular bug-spraying service and you'll be fine. |

I’ve been here for 25 + years and never had a problem outside or in with pests.
I don’t think Arizona is any worse then anyplace else with pests. However some areas of the metro valley will have problems just because of where they are located. I live in the northern central part of Phoenix and the worst thing that happened was a desert fox came out of the mountain preserve and thought he should live in my back yard. It was easy to discourage he after I figured out what he was up to. ![]() |
