Default tempe/scottsdale area

Hey everyone, just found this board and I've read a lot of useful posts about phoenix. I recently graduated college in December and currently live in maryland but I hope to move to AZ in September.

I will be visting Phoenix for the first time in the end of may, for about a week(already got my plane tickets!). From the the research I've done... I wanted to check out tempe and scottsdale. These two towns seem like they would fit me best(younger crowd, a lot of things to do, a good bar/club scene, close to downtown phoenix). I will be renting and it seems like scottsdale and tempe are pretty similar in pricing(been looking on rent.com). I don't mind being in a student area(I'm used to it considering I've lived in one for the last 4 yrs lol). Getting a masters degree is also a possibility as well. Any suggestions on where to go, things to do, specific areas in scottsdale/tempe to check out?

Basically on this trip I'm just going to check out these areas and the city to see how I like it and if I want to move there in sept. Thanks!

Live as close to Old Town Scottsdale or Mill Ave as possible. There are a few places that are within walking distance of Old Town which are nice (San Marin, can't remember the others).
