Being a big fan of baseball, I'm excited about the news. This stadium will be a lot closer to home than the other parks and despite what a bad year it's been, I'm still a Diamondbacks fan .

Not to start a debate about which city is better (of course it is hands down Phoenix) but he was somewhat right. I doubt the majority of the Tucson population lives in poverty; however, given the discrepancy of "niceties" in Tucson compared to Phoenix/Scottsdale I'm sure the players and other well-to-do baseball fans would much rather be in the Phoenix area.

I live in Tucson (but only for a few more months!), and, as far as I've heard, it was a two-fold decision: teams did not care for the drive between Phoenix and Tucson, and the D-Backs, Rockies and Whitesox all wanted nicer facilities but Tucson didn't want to pay for them.

You will have moved to California by the time it opens

This will be a nice addition to the Valley's Spring Training venues -

Great for the locals - great for tourism.

I take spring training vacations each year (even though I live in the state) and this is great news. I never bothered to go down to Tucson to see the Diamondbacks or Rockies because I didn't want to make that drive. Besides, I could not find anything else of interest in Tucson. So, next year we get the Reds added to the Indians facility. And the both the Tucson teams the next year. Sweet.

^^^...and this is typical for people who like to bash Tucson. Never been there, but there's not much there.

Don't take it to heart. I know you are standing up for your city but he just stated he didn't find many things of interest in Tucson. That wasn't really a bash but an opinion. I don't find much of interest with or in Tucson either, but obviously you do. Hey, he could of said, "thank goodness they are leaving TuScum because that city is hopelessly uninteresting." Then you'd have the go ahead to give him an internet smack. But from his post, it sounds like he has visited and would rather not again. I too am glad the D-Backs are coming to their home-turf, I don't like going to Tucson except to watch USC or the Devils beat up on UofA...except the football program last year. Erickson better make up for it this year, LOL!
